Reminder that PhotoPlusExpo is this week from Thursday through Sunday:

http://www.photoplusexpo.com/

I'll be there Friday all day, have no plans or commitments, just going to wander the show floor. I'm not taking any classes and am not scheduled for any after hours events so if you are gonna be there and are up for drinks lunch or dinner give me a shout!

Remember if you intend to go to B&H or Adorama they keep Jewish Holiday hours so be sure they are open when you expect to be there:

So what am I after this year? Mostly HD DSLR video gear!

I'm waiting for the D7000 'non kit' version so if I can find one it's mine.

Zacuto Z-Finder Pro: http://store.zacuto.com/Z-Finder.html

Think Tank Urban Disguise 35 2.0 for my video kit: http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/urban-disguise-35-v2.aspx

Rode Stereo Video Mic with Dead Cat: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/363083-REG/Rode_VIDEOMIC_VideoMic_Camera_Mounted.html

Other than video stuff I think I'm good to go on the stills side but I always find new stuff at the show!

Sam,

Since you mentioned shopping for the Rode video mic, what are you using to do the actual audio recording? OR can that actually be hooked up directly and effectively to the DSLR?

I'm actually thinking of picking up the Zoom H2 recorder more to record music recitals/concerts/practices than for video purposes, but it seems popular amongst (amateur/semi-pro?) videographers anyway.

No plans to attend the Expo myself. Maybe next year...

The d7000 has a stereo line in. Will put a mono to stereo splurged between the mic and cam.

Bummer you can't go! We've never actually met, right?

Hmmm... If the D7000's video capabilities turn out real good, I will definitely need to reconsider waiting for FF before upgrading from my D200. Not sure I'd actually go for the D7000 in that case, but I'd certainly keep a closer eye on the D300 successor.

Nope, we've never actually met though we've probably seen one or two pics of each other.

OK, here ya go, Self Portrait:

=)

Edit: I never noticed it before but a trick of that lighting setup in this shot makes it look like I've got a heart shape in my mouth, neat! It didn't show up in others from the same set:

OK, show was a little disappointing but still worthwhile.

I skipped the Zfinder and the Stereo Mic since I don't have my D7000 yet but I got to play with a D7000 and am very impressed. It's a LOT more like the D300 than it is the D5000. SOLID.

I did get the Urban Disguise bag and will put that through its paces, and I bought a Wacom Tablet. Will see if I can make it worth it's cost, time will tell!

Haha... Looks like you had fun making those, Sam. Actually not big on doing self-portraits myself, but here's an oldie of me:

Interestingly, I've been taking a lot of pictures of myself lately, since it's more convenient for me to be the model than try to recruit someone. I guess that's where having kids or a significant other would have its benefits.
