I just had the opportunity to see this film, and I am rather surprised
that this thread is void of any comments.

Have many HTF members seen this film?

I ask this question, because...truly...after having seen every Oscar
nominated film this year (with the exception of Nebraska and Gravity),
this was one of the most outstanding films I have seen.

I had tears in my eyes several times throughout. Very emotional film.

Judi Dench is absolutely superb. Top of her game in this film.

The Oscar frontrunner for me was 12 Years A Slave. However, Philomena
has made my choice much more difficult. I will call it an easy tie.

(I plan to watch Gravity and Nebraska within the next two weeks)

Perhaps what I am trying to convey is that Philomena is a film that I
would highly recommend everyone watch. It will not easily be forgotten.

It's a very good movie but I'd put in the second half of nominees (which is certainly not a knock against it). It's funny that you mention 12 Years A Slave because that and Philomena are movies where the subject is so awful that it makes it hard for me to connect and enjoy the movie enough to say that it's the "best" movie of the year. You're right about Dench- this could be her best performance.
