"Phantasm" series to be restored/released in Hi-Def (1 Viewer)

Classic Phantasm film series and new film ‘Ravager’ to get full HD releases via Well Go USA.

Imprint Well Go USA Entertainment announced its acquisition of North American rights for Don Coscarelli’s legendary Phantasm horror film series, including an all-new 4K restoration of the original 1979 cult classic Phantasm: Remastered, never-before-seen HD restorations of 1994’s Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead and 1998’s Phantasm IV: Oblivion, and the long-anticipated debut of the fifth and final film in the series, 2016’s Phantasm: Ravager. 1988’s Phantasm II is owned by Universal and will not be part of the deal.

I'm just sad they couldn't work out a deal with Universal to include Phantasm II in the big box set.

It appears that Phantasm II was produced in-house at Universal, as it is one of 3 production companies listed on the credits at IMDb, which means it would hold more rights on that title than III, which it also distributed. In any event, there is a decent SE from Shout! Factory of Phantasm II which can be added to your collection. I am one of those guys who loves to have everything in one box, but sometimes, it's just not possible. Something like this European DVD set would've been nice.

The existing Blu-ray of PHANTASM II from Scream Factory looks awful. It looks like an upconvert. Maybe Arrow will be able to license it from Universal and do a 2K remaster.
