panasonic acquisition advice (1 Viewer)

Hello guys,
I need an opinion from specialists and this is why I am posting here.

I want to make a tv upgrade in my living room. Now I have a 4 or 5 yrs old Panasonic plasma p42gt40 (afaik).
I would like to buy a bigger tv, with a bit more tech inside (3D, bigger screen, improved panel etc.)

Facts:
- distance from me to tv approx 3 meters, that is 9 feet (give or take)
- light environment - average during day cos I have curtains, so contrast ratio might not be an issue.

I would like to continue with Panasonic, but Samsung is also ok.

What is your advice between p55vt60 plasma and the new tx55as800 led?

I know the bonus and malus of plasma vs led. For image quality I'd choose plasma, however the new tech gimmicks from the led tvs sound very appealing. On the other hand, I have in my appartment other SMART tv's but I don't think that I used the "smart" features more than 5 hours on aggregate in 1 year.
The price (in Romania) is an advantage for the plasma (1400 EUR plasma against 1800 EUR the LED, that is approx a 600 USD difference).

I think you answered your own question - image quality is important to you, and you seldom use smart features. Keep in mind, that most of the "gimmicks" listed for LCD displays are really just tools that are intended to help get the image quality closer to that of plasma.

In addition, since you are used to the image quality of plasma, I'd worry about "stepping down" to LCD.

the fact is that i haven't seen yet the image from the Panasonic LED, to have a clear comparison between them. also i haven't read many reviews since there are not so many on the internet.

so I don t know many things about the picture quality.
I assume that it cannot be better than plasma, regardless of the tech thingies implemented for improving it. however, as we all know, assumption is the mother of all f**k ups, so this is why I ask for an opinion/hint/advice...

buying a 1500 EUR tv is quite an expenditure. ok, not a huge one, but obviously, like any sane person, I prefer to spend them on the best product that (my available) money can buy. i could think about moving to a 4k tv, but the 4k content is very scarce at this moment, if not inexistent and in the next 2 yrs, let's say, I don't believe that 4k will be as present in our life as it is full HD now.

so, it is a choice and I guess that I'll stick with the plasma even if it is a 2013 model and not the last blast from the market.

A different way of thinking about "4k tv", at least for me at this point in time is to forget about 4k media use. I look at only the UHDs 1080P Passive 3D capability which would not be possible without UHD. In my mind 1080P passive 3D was probably the initial objective reaction for the research and development of UHDs before mass market demand levels set-in and the need for other uses came into focus..
