The 790 is a product that officially doesn't exist. It is expected to be a seven channel amplifier with balanced inputs to be fully compatible with the new Outlaw 990 preamp.
EDIT: OK-- as is sometimes the case -- I don't know what I'm talking about. :b See below. (At least I got the number of channels right...)
Wow. I also see Steven is selling his Lexicon. I guess that's a pretty strong endorsement for the 990's sound quality.
I'm trying SO HARD not to move to the 990 from my 950. Damn you, Steven Simon, you're NOT HELPING!
As a current owner of a Lexicon MC-1 (purchased used, I can't afford their stuff new), who has been holding out on SACD and DVD-A until I can upgrade to something offering compatibility without sacrificing much of what the MC-1 does... the 990 sure looks tempting. So Steve's comments, coming from an MC-1, are very interesting and I really appreciate seeing them. I've been using an inexpensive HK preamp with a tuner & phono input to augment the MC-1, and it looks like the 990 would allow me to get rid of both, which is great.
I was never tempted by the 950 but hmmm... I'm starting to think the 990 is seriously worth looking into!
Steve, is there anything at all you miss about the MC-1, aside from the Lexicon name?
I had a dedicated Sony SACD Player just sitting here collecting dust because my lex didn't the Inputs.. I hooked it up last night and spun some Billy Joel..... Wow!!!!!
As far as missing the Lex??? So far the 990 is a fantastic piece...
Actually Outlaw has mentioned it a few times and even gave a release date of Jan. 05 (obviously didn't make it) in their newsletter. Basically its a 300 x 7 amp with balanced inputs.
Only bummer is that it doesn't have two of them, as currently my SACD and DVD-A players are separate components. I'll either have to invest in rigging a 5.1 switcher, or buy a universal... :frowning:
