Going through the LaserDisc Section of Amoeba Records I was surprised to find a 'Bloom County' holiday special by Berkeley Breathed dated 1991. I was a hue fan but somehow didn't know this existed.
I doubt if the DVD exisits but it is a great 30 minute show.
Anyone know about this special and did any others ever come out???

I am so glad I still have my Elite CLD 79!

I watched this on TV when I was a kid. It's pretty good, but definitely a softened apolitacal version of Bloom County. Chances are someone will air it in the next couple months.

Cool, I didn't know it was on laserdisc. I taped it during its original airing. I've never seen it on any schedule again.

It was based on the first of several children's books Breathed wrote and illustrated after retiring from the comics page. Thus soft and apolitical.

It's a classic! Check out the credits and you'll be surprised to see...

Dustin Hoffman -Milquetoast the Cross-Dressing Cockroach
Robin Williams -The Kiwi (voice) (as Sudy Nim)

I have this laserdisc. But I haven't watched it in years. Very cool show though. I may have to pull it out again, now that you brough it up.

It resembles Outland more than Bloom County with no political overtones and no human characters. Still it's the only time Opus was animated and it's worth it for that.

I have a very crappy vhs version from broadcast.

I spoke with Mr. Breathed about this at a book signing recently and he said (and I paraphrase), "I think it's out on laserdisc."

He also didn't seem to think that there would be enough people wanting it to justify a release.

Yeah!! I found one at Suncoast in the mall last night. Only $14.99.
(I didn't find it at my local Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Wal-Mart nor Sams Club, and was about to mail order it.)

The DVD is about as bare-bones as you can get, with "Play" and "Subtitles" (in English) being the only two options in the root menu, however the picture quality and sound are both very good.

I was a bit suprised that there is no mention of Robin Williams nor Dustin Hoffman anywhere on the DVD case. They have always been omitted in the program's credits, but at least my old VHS copy mentions them on the slip case.
