Brandon,
Well, since they sent out specific (not their usual generic) confirmation emails to the XB and GC pre-order customers, they would be in for a PR fiasco if they canceled any significant number of orders.
As far as the employees go, they were on the same footing as the general public, that is, uninformed. Seems like a fair policy, just like how the employees have to wait in line on launch day like everybody else. Actually, with PS2 last year employees did have an advantage. They knew and understood the policy for launch day, while people who called the store were often given all kinds of misleading answers about when to show up, if tickets would be handed out, etc. Conspiracy? Sure.
If there are piles of Cubes in the stores throughout the season as some are predicting, it will make sense to sell some more through the web site. Given the past 3 launches (N64, GBC, GBA) of Nintendo I expect shortages for a couple of weeks (whether natural or artificial). After that, all bets are off.
I do suspect XBox to be on shortage through the season, and if I were BB I'd definitely give priority to B&M.
Oh, and I was just giving you a hard time.
I suspect you weren't the only one who thought the online XBox orders on Wednesday might be some kind of mistake.
