Brandon,
Well, since they sent out specific (not their usual generic) confirmation emails to the XB and GC pre-order customers, they would be in for a PR fiasco if they canceled any significant number of orders.
As far as the employees go, they were on the same footing as the general public, that is, uninformed. Seems like a fair policy, just like how the employees have to wait in line on launch day like everybody else. Actually, with PS2 last year employees did have an advantage. They knew and understood the policy for launch day, while people who called the store were often given all kinds of misleading answers about when to show up, if tickets would be handed out, etc. Conspiracy? Sure.
If there are piles of Cubes in the stores throughout the season as some are predicting, it will make sense to sell some more through the web site. Given the past 3 launches (N64, GBC, GBA) of Nintendo I expect shortages for a couple of weeks (whether natural or artificial). After that, all bets are off.
I do suspect XBox to be on shortage through the season, and if I were BB I'd definitely give priority to B&M.
Oh, and I was just giving you a hard time.

I suspect you weren't the only one who thought the online XBox orders on Wednesday might be some kind of mistake.

But especially because nobody delivers on 11/18 - it's a Sunday.

BTW, I ordered a black unit about 15 minutes ago, so keep checking.

Man, I forgot about the email updates from the website. I was signed up for that, but the email address I used was from an old internet account that is no longer active. Oh well. Like with the PS2, I will wait till the second shipment comes in to buy one. No customers in line then!:)
It's unfortunate that so many stores had bad, sneaky employees who lied and manipulated customers. We even had an employee who stole a number ticket just so he would get one on launch day. I can tell you we will be having a number system for both systems and that we will get game interactives 1 week before launch.
I can't begin to tell you how annoying it was to answer the phone every 5 seconds during christmas about PS2 hardware and have people try to pry information from you. I even had a major local news station who wanted to buy one early so they could have one on there 6:00 pm news, and many reporters tried to get information out of me which BB had warned us about. I had customers offer huge cash incentives( several hundred dollars) just to secure them a unit, and I just told them to goto Ebay, bid on one, and pay for next day shipping.
Ok, I will stop ranting.

Has anyone received e-mail confirmation of their BB order yet? I placed an order yesterday and have yet to receive confirmation. When I look up my account info the order is listed as being "in process."
Just curious. . .

BrandonG,
I totally understand about having to deal with a lot of phone calls about launch day.
The policies should have been posted on the door of the store.
I'm sure it was different in various locations, but around here every employee and his family members were in line to get a ticket at 6am (or whenever it was) while the general public did not even know that tickets were being handed out or what time, because they had been given incorrect information by those same employees who were in line.
Thats bullshit.
Brandon H,
I didn't get to check my home email last night. I did get a confirmation the night before about the XB.

Now that it's been mentioned, I have *not* received a confirmation e-mail yet...

Me neither, Joel. I checked on line & the order's still in my list with stock as 'pending', which is what I'd expect for a pre-order.
BestBuy's online system is a little screwy for confirmations etc.

That sucks. For curiousity sake, do you happen to know the number of the store that is happened at? I want to check some things out.
I can also tell you that there were many stores in the company who would keep all the units in the back, and if you didn't want accessories or LOOK like you could afford them, they would flat out LIE to the customer and say they were sold out. This happened at a store in my area. All that did was send more customers to my store and my sales skyrocketed. Some stores also did this if you didn't buy the Product Replacement Plans. Did anyone here run into situations like these? Fortunately, most stores were honest and sold PS2's the proper way.

Does anyone know how the hell you're supposed to pre-order this thing. Im not a rocket scientist but shouldn't you just click the "buy" button??? Every time I do that and try to checkout, I get a pop-up window telling me that the Gamecube is not available for pickup or delivery. NO SHIT! It's not out yet! Why can't I just place a pre-order???

Rob,
If you are following the link provided, that page is no longer valid. If you go to the Gamecube "store-front" there is a statement that says they've sold out of their first allotment, so they probably aren't accepting any more orders.

Has anyone from this thread heard a peep from bestbuy.com regarding their order?
