I totally missed this thread somehow.

Count me among those who will be at the front of the line to secure a copy of Oliver.

I think this is great news--as long as I don't miss out on getting my copy! Can't believe it took me so long to stumble upon this thread.

Mike, I already have "Oliver!" shipping to me via Sony's region-free release in Germany from Amazon.de...it's under $20 including shipping and will feature the same transfer as the Twilight Time release for about 30% below their list price...plus it's available NOW!!!

About the mentioned "overall consensus", with all due respect to all personal opinion (and therefore subjective), I like to know where is collected and published the "objective observations of the overall consensus".Could it be contributed a link to that source of the index of "general consensus", so useful to support any personal opinion?

Does the disc have the 'Overture' and 'Entr'acte' music?

This is NOT a deal breaker...but is the cover artwork (and the on-screen menus) in English?

While I don't have Oliver! yet, I do have the German Blu-ray releases of As Good As It Gets and Tootsie. The coverart is in German, however the menus are in whatever language is the default of your blu-ray player, so yes in English!

The cover artwork is German, but the disc's on-screen menus are chosen by the user during the loading process...with English as an option...

Didn't the US DVD edition come with the Overture, Entr'acte and Exit music sequences? I'm pretty sure they were included on the UK and Aussie DVD releases.....

I'll have to look at my US DVD to see what it has. The German blu-ray showed up today in the mail, after less than a week in transit. I can confirm that it has Overture, Entr'acte, and Exit Music. $18 shipped.

Just checked my 1998 DVD. It's a flipper disc with the overture and intermission card on side one and the entr'acte and exit music on side 2. Both sides are single-layer.
My Blu-ray will be coming from Amazon.it and should ship out tomorrow. I'm very excited about the upgrade!

I don't understand about European blu-rays. Do they have PAL speed-up? Does PAL speed-up even apply to blu-rays in the first place?

Blu-ray is unaffected by PAL speed-up, as far as I know.

The only concern about blu rays from Europe or elsewhere is if they are region locked. USA and Canada are Region A, Europe is Region B. From these boards I have read that most Sony/Columbia films on blu ray are region free or at least playable on regions A and B.

I'm probably going to order Tootsie and The China Syndrome. I intend to order Oliver! and The Way We Were from Twilight Time. I want to support them.
