I saw that all of the Paramount films that were released by Legend Films have gone OOP, I assume because their license expired. I'm curious if Olive plans to grab any of them and give them their first-time Blu-ray releases. There's some good ones in the group like Daniel (1983), Framed (1975), Hurricane (1979), Money From Home (1953), Phase IV (1974), The Pied Piper (1972), The Possession of Joel Delaney (1972), The Sender (1982), Villa Rides (1968), and Z.P.G. (1972).
Legend did a few of the films in Blu. I got a Blu double feature of HOUDINI and THOSE DARING YOUNG MEN IN THEIR JAUNTY JALOPIES. I'm not sure of the titles but there were others. Yes there were some excellent paramount titles in that batch.

Thanks for the heads up. Thankfully the OOP status has yet to affect the price of these yet, so I picked up a couple I overlooked earlier.

Full list of Paramount/Legend Blu-ray releases:

Houdini (1953) / Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies ( Monte Carlo or Bust ) (1969)
Jekyll and Hyde... Together Again (1982) / Student Bodies (1981)
Mandingo (1975)
The Skull (1965) / The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959)

As for Olive picking up more Paramount titles to distribute, including these ones.... no one really knows what their future relationship with Paramount will be like after Frank Tarzi's departure to Kino. Will they simply finish off the Republic licensed titles and focus on Ignite/Cult Epics/108 Media releases, or will they get more from Paramount/another catalog holding studio?

Amazon have some of Olive Film's back catalog on sale for $12.99 each. For example Captain Carey USA and The Trap. Amazon's price for the Captain Carey USA DVD is higher than for the BRD!

Watched to May releases and decided to share my thoughts:

Love Happy: A rather good transfer with very few blemishes. While I think we can all agree this is a lesser Marx Brothers film (if not the least significant) which isn't helped considering it had a somewhat notorious release history and not even a token scene where all 3 brothers are on the screen at once. It was obviously an attempted Harpo Marx vehicle with the other two brothers shoe-horned in to increase box office.

However, despite it's low reputation, I still found it rather enjoyable. While the presence of the Marx bros. is surely a bonus, it really seemed that Frank Tashlin's involvement in this picture did much to salvage it in terms of the Harpo segments. There is definitely a different take on the physical comedy compared to the usual routines, and some in particular ("She's giving him the whammy!") are definitely pure Tashlin. This film also seems to be one of his first major Hollywood film assignments before his writing completely became apparent through the Red Skelton & Lucille Ball features at Columbia.

Home of the Brave: Another good transfer, though with more rough patches including a few moments of uneven contrast. As far as early Hollywood race movies go, this one I think ages very well. What helps is that it has much more than just a movie with a message in that it has several interlocking themes of various emotional insecurities (some fresh out of high school), the cost of war, PTSD, coping with permanent physical handicaps. Almost anyone watching this movie can relate and feel emotionally attached to what is going on throughout the movie.

I also enjoyed the minimalistic approach in dealing with the enemy Japanese. Their deadly presence was known and felt but never shown, further adding the the psychological element and increasing tension in Moss's mind.

Flying Tigers. A very nice video presentation. Some sequences look a bit rough and there are some vertical scratches early one, but this one looks great otherwise. While technically a John Wayne film, he is somewhat secondary to John Carroll. Which was fine by me because John Carroll hand a good, entertaining, and credible performance throughout the picture. John Wayne still gets some good material though, particularly near the end of the film.

This film also was nominated for an Academy Award for special effect, and indeed some of the stunt flying and miniature model work looked fantastic. Definitely above and beyond what one normally expects from a Republic feature from the early 40s.

Johnny Come Lately. Very good, above average transfer. This might be the best of the 4 in terms of video presentation. While the story itself entertaining enough, if not all that outstanding, it's real charm is in some of the side characters and individual vignettes. James Cagney's interaction and sly schmoozing Marjorie Main and Hattie McDaniel on separate occasions are among the highlights of the film.

Dr. Terror's House of Horrors should be added to the list of titles designated as NOT AVAILABLE, at least until the rights clear up. Apparently a UK company was challenging Paramount's rights the film, according to some insider info I received. It's sad how the planned Blu-ray release just dropped off the radar after a couple of lengthy delays. The situation has sort of turned me off to buying further Olive titles. Hopefully someday we'll see the film finally released but some of the initial enthusiasm will have worn off by then, unfortunately.

I don't know how Olive can be blamed if the company they licensed it from (Paramount) is being challenged about their ownership of it. Kinda ties Olive's hands if that's the case.

I'm glad somebody else thought the same thing.

I didn't mean my comments to sound like I was blaming Olive, sorry if it came across as such. Studios don't owe anyone explanations but it is frustrating to be waiting for something that was announced and nothing happens for years. The film will come out when it comes out. End of story

I bought three Olive BDs recently, one (MR. PEABODY AND THE MERMAID) I'd seen as a kid and the other two (GOOD SAM and THE LOST MOMENT) were blind buys that sounded great. I found all three enchanting and really wonderful, nice visuals with just a bit of damage here and there but so worthwhile. Olive is a brave company to get these rather obscure titles out and in blu-ray form and I'm really impressed by them. I'll be ordering even more in the future. Wonder if they will toss in a few old Paramount faves like LADY IN A CAGE, COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA and THE NAKED JUNGLE.

Unlikely since all three are available thru the Warners Archive via their deal with Paramount.

Put me down for "Naked Jungle" (and "Elephant Walk" for that matter) but those I suspect will come via Warners (if they wind up being released at all).
