Hmm... I guess $2000 per Gigabyte is a little high for a 5400 RPM drive.

I thought that, too, but when you look closely it's for a palette of 600 hard drives. It's still more expensive than a 40 GB at most places, but I found the concept of buying a skid filled with 600 hard drives to be ... well ... it's just something that you don't see every day. [IMG]

    Oh, missed the QTY! Doh!

I'd be really impressed if we could get them all into a massive HTPC DVD/CD server. Compression schemes are for wimps!

A wholesale lot like this should provide you a 30gig HD for less than $100. I got a 40GB WD drive for $80 3 months ago.

Why don't you just RAID all of them?

That's what I told my wife, but I still couldn't convince her. "But that would give me 1.8 terabytes of data! Think of the MP3s that I could store with that!"

And with 600 spindles in a parallel read format? Hell, we'd get a gigabyte per second reading rates!

I saw an 80gb drive for $80 (after rebates) the other day. Talk about a high quantity rip off!

Could you imagine your power bill with those all connected?

Hey, we could turn off our furnace and just blow the heat through the house. We'd be nice and warm.

"So, what do you use to heat your house."

"The Maxtor Parallel Thermal Dissipator And Data Appliance, Model 600."

    "What?"

Sorry to anyone else interested but I just purchased them. The shipping (UPS Ground) is a reasonable $14,863.55. [IMG]
