Marvin,
I'm being picky here, but I think it adds to the joke. "It'll take more than 9 Yanks to beat R. Johnson."
All I can say is, "Wow." Suddenly the Dbacks bats have come to life, and after giving up a run in the first inning of the first game, Schills and Johnson have held the Yankees scoreless for 17 straight innings. Still, everyone in the valley and in the Dback's dugout is more than aware of the Oakland series, and the 96 World Series. These guys haven't succumbed to any pressure (though the Bronx could certainly change that), and they realize they still have a lot of work to do (and that it's going to get tougher). The only two things these wins mean is (1) There WILL be a game six in Phoenix. (2) There's a chance I'll quit hearing from the media (NY's media especially) that the Diamondbacks don't belong on the same field with the Yankees, much less in the World Series.
P.S. Another great sign read, "It's 2-0, and we're not Oakland!" Only time will tell...TF

I fully expect the Yanks to even up the series in the next 2 games, but they will fall when they have to go against Schilling and Johnson once more in games 5 and 6.
Actually, expect to see Schilling and Johnson in games 4 and 5, and Schilling again in Game 7, if neccessary...

Now this is funny. Vicariously winning through a team that is playing teh team that YOUR team lost to. You have to be desperate to pull that one off :)

Oh you gotta love bitter Mariner's fans! Hee Hee Hee
Since we're on the topic...even if Arizona beats NY, that doesn't make Seattle any better this season. In fact one could argue that it drops them further down the list of "best" teams this year, because they would have been dismantled by a team that didn't even win the World Series. :)
People who take sports loyalties this far really need to get a hobby or something.

You're right, it just makes the Yankees much much shittier.

OK, OK, I originally posted that the Yanks would sweep. The first tow games were a fluke. A fluke I tell ya!!! So now, I know for a FACT that it will be the Yanks in SIX. It's a fact. Bank on it kids. There's no bones about it. Again, why do the D-Backs even show up? They have no number 3 starter, and this will be an obvious LOSS for the D-Backs. What's the point? The Yanks have it in the bag. The Yanks will win in SIX SIX SIX.
P.S. Since it worked so well the first two times, I'm still doing my best to to uttery jinx the Yanks!! Screw 'em!!!

I'm still an NL West guy at heart (Dodgers) so yeah, I'm pulling for the DBacks. Specifically: Randy Johnson, Curt Shilling & Mark Grace.
The Yanks have had it all in the last decade, let someone else have some fun. :)
I do hope it at least goes 5 games so that NYC can benefit from having 3 World Series Games to stimulate the local economy, though.

BTW, Ric, you do have a problem keeping on topic don't you. Somehow, you just want to keep coming back to the Mariners. I guess it's because they are such a great team.
Focus, dear boy, focus. We are talking about the Diamondbacks and from what I see so far, it might just be a sweep.

quote: Actually it was the last two words... something about your behind or something
I'm a little concerned with your seemingly unhealthy obsession with my behind.
quote: Somehow, you just want to keep coming back to the Mariners. I guess it's because they are such a great team.
Hardly. Simply a misguided attempt to bring some sense to their "fans" that are loyal to the point of blindness. I see now though that my attempts are futile.
quote: We are talking about the Diamondbacks and from what I see so far, it might just be a sweep.
Perhaps, although 2 games does not a series make, ask the Oakland A's that question. By the way, how's the weather on that bandwagon of yours?

Like I said previously, some people really need to get out more, or perhaps take time to realize that there is more to life than baseball. (your team lost...get over it) Fascinating to me that you can somehow gain solace by vicariously cheering for a team that you probably never even heard of until 3 weeks ago.

Come on, Ric. Haven't you ever heard that old saying? I pull for my favorite team and (in this case) ANYBODY playing the Yankees.

Yea I know...it's an age old tradition. Hell I do it with the Rangers (hockey), but I guess I'm just slightly amused by the fact that he seems to get so much glee by rooting for a team he's probably never watched before simply because the team they are playing eliminated HIS favorite team. :) Kind of convoluted but you get the picture

Shows how much you know about the Mariners this year Ric. Just so happens the Mariners played the Diamondbacks this year and won the series against them (I watched all three games). It was played at Bank One, by the way.

All THREE GAMES! Really??? Wow!! A whole 2% of the season.

I guess Arizona is worthy of your temporary undying loyalty then.

Excuse me, but I believe the Yankees are now trailing that same Diamondback team by 2-0 count. You are needing a refresher in who was a better team against the Diamondbacks, son

I won't make any predictions, but I'd like to see the Dbacks win the series.
I hate the American League.
