Overall, it was okay, a little too mushy with the family angle, but the

dramatization of tanking stocks through insider-trading and rumor-spreading

kept things simple enough to follow.

Wasn't too invested in Carey Mulligan's performance as Gordon Gecko's

daughter, nor Shia Labeouf's performance as Jacob, the guy who might be

Gordon's future son-in-law. But Michael Douglas plays Gordon like he never

left the role 20+ years ago.

Oliver Stone needs to resist the urge to show up in cameos in his own films.

I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.

I liked it a lot.

Douglas was, of course, fantastic and Josh Brolin was delightfully smarmy.

Personally, I liked Shia, too. Didn't much care for Carey Mulligan and had her part been a bit better written and replaced by a better actress, I think this sequel could've matched its predecessor.

It's a rare sequel that feels like it exists because there's more story to tell and not simply to cash in on nostalgia.

Will definitely be purchasing on Blu-ray once it comes out.

The original (outside of Douglas as Gekko) wasn't very good at all. It was extremely shallow and poorly filmed to boot. Certainly, it was a lower end Oliver Stone effort.

However, I thought "Money Never Sleeps" was far more mature and grounded than the original film. I also liked the filmmaking a great deal more this time. That opening sequence with the song "Home" featured some of the best footage I've ever seen shot of Manhattan.

The third act lacked something...not sure what. It felt very rushed to me. Perhaps, a longer director's cut would help out in that regard. Jake Moore (Shia LaBeouf) didn't register with me at all, but I did like Douglas, Mulligan, Brolin, Sarandon, and Eli Wallach hit a home run in all his scenes!

Overall, I'd give it a B+ and 3 1/2 out of five stars.
