I speculate...and mark my word...this film is going to get
torn apart by reviewers this week.

It's an unwatchable mess.

'Nuff said.

A friend in Japan told me they walked out dumbfounded it was so bad ;( Said RDJ was good in it, but it seemed like it had no sensible plot at all. :(

Thread title needs changed. :) Here's a snippet of what was said:

"Everyone seemed shell shocked. Like this should have been tagged onto the first film as an extended ending because it makes no sense on it's own. Maybe the worst sequel to a super hero movie.. But X3 was awesome in comparison. At least the idea there was interesting. This had no idea what was going on. Scarlett Johansen is smoking hot, as an upside"

My expectations for Iron Man2 were already low. It seemed like they were rushing it after the first was a hit.

They should be concerned - especially as this is supposed to build anticipation for Avengers.

This is not at all what I wanted to hear. I thought there was a good chance it wouldn't be as good as the first one, but it sounds like it is a lot worse.

That is really too bad. I had high hopes for this. The trailers looked pretty darn good (not that they are a good measure, but the trailer along with the strength of the first movie made it sound like a winner).

Any other reviews up?

Plenty:

It's still fresh. The British press seems to like it.

Did anyone who saw it pick up on the Avengers tidbits thrown in the film?

No major spoilers.....
-Capt Americas shield
-Downey said Iron Man2 takes place at the same time as The Incredible Hulk. You can see a broadcast covering the campus mayhem from that film.
- I wont spoil the after credits scene, but it involves Thor

Ron,

I saw it last night. You were almost right. I wouldn't call it an unwatchable mess. But, it's a mess. And it's entirely in the second act...

Kevin Feige and company had their hands in the cookie jar on this film.

This film is a bridge film...the first ( in movie time) prequel to the Avengers. Captain America will be the second.

matt,

Wouldn't go that far but at times, it does feel like that. The first half set is actually quite great. After the Monaco action sequence, it just goes down...for unknown reasons. Then, right when you think this film has really gone off the rails, it comes back with a fairly dynamic climax that's better than all the action in the first film and all that's come before it to cap the film off.

The subplot with SHIELD/Howard Stark/and the "new element" is just lazy in its execution. There was a much more efficient way to handle this whole deal...which is one of the problems of the second act but it stands out the most.

Cory,

I respectfully disagree.

Without spoiling anything I just felt that the first half
of the movie was very difficult go get through. A huge
amount of inane dialogue and situations. There is a
party scene at Stark's home that puts Ironman in a
VERY disturbing light that leads to a pointless confrontation.
(We can discuss that further after you guys see the film).

I realize that Robert Downey's character is obnoxious
by nature -- but in this film so much more so that you
really lose respect for his character. He is way, way
over the top in this film and that's evident from the opening
scene.

Sam Rockwell's nerdy character is also disturbing to
watch at times. It's like they stuck him in their for comedic
element but he's anything but funny to watch. Even the
inclusion of Scarlett Johansson (who I would warmly welcome)

is...well....ho-hum.

This movie, in a word, is boring. I just couldn't wait for it

to finish so I could go watch grass grow.

Obviously not everyone feels this way, so yes, there is

good amount of hope that some of you will like this movie.

Plus, if you read this and go in with low expectations you

are bound to like the film better than I did.

I really look forward to your opinions over the next few days.

Oh wait, though, as a comic book person, if they are working on making Stark into more of a jerk/really unlikable, that may be bordering on some of the best moments in the comic, when alcoholism really took down Tony Stark.

I mean, does it come across as just kind of a jerk, or really tilting toward a fall. I'm just wondering if he's trying to bring up any "Demon in a Bottle" type feeling for the franchise.
