...and you won't find much backup from the masses either.

That COULD be due to these hypothetical "masses" being like I was, and not even KNOWING about this movie until someone recommended it.
I wouldn't say it was "better" than the Matrix. I also wouldn't say it was "worse". If Equilibrium had similar production values, promotional work and a similar BUDGET to Matrix, we could make an honest comparison.

I've shown this to about a half a dozen friends and they've all enjoyed it. I think Tony is right that most people never heard about this in its theatrical run. I managed to see it in the week or so it was playing in Los Angeles and told people about it, but they were cautious -- and then it was gone.
