When I saw the previews for yesterday's show, I thought, "Oh no, not another virus story." However, I was quite entertained with it. I like the direction the show is taking. It's not getting too much into the technical aspects of mathematics but it's showing that math can be used for just calculating your bills. While the story itself wasn't so complicated or complex, it was still entertaining. And I don't want to nitpick details re: real life so I like to sit back and just watch.
The character relationships are interesting and leave us wanting a little more. The father/sons relationship is just good enough to satisfy and I hope they develop it further. It's nice to see a non-dysfunctional family in a drama on the air for a change. I'm really admiring Charlie. However, the co-worker aspect is still weak.
And next week's show could be sensitive to viewers but in itself, storywise, looks quite interesting:
A new skyscraper is in jeopardy of falling down when hit with strong winds due to poor engineering. Could this be an episode without a requisite "villain"? (Reading TV Tome just revealed that there is a conspiracy, so that probably means a villain.) Could make for another intersting story.
I also just read TV Tome's summaries and it seems the episodes are being shown out of production order. This causes one plot story (Charlie's security clearance) to be confusing. Also:
There is a history between Don and Terry as shown in an upcoming episode. However, seeing them now doesn't hint at anything. Guess there wasn't time to dwell on that aspect of their relationship.
Was that intentional? Couldn't be... The disclaimer at the start said, "THE FOLLOWIING..." "FOLLOWIING"??? No proofreading? I can see how people could get unnerved by the storyline, though.
Finally, Terry gets "involved" (reinvolved?) in the Epps family, but not much.
It was nice to see Charlie's reaction at the end when talking to the parents. It shows us how he's feeling about others like him and most of all, himself. -
I thought the most recent episode was fascinating and incredibly original until I watched MI-5 last night, which had a similar (but slightly different take) on exactly the same mathematical topic/premise/whatever. I don't object though, and still feel that Numb3rs is taking the old war horse plots and spinning them off in a fresh, new direction.
I agree ... great show. Virtually no profanity, no soft porn, crime without gore, intelligent plots, intellectual theme ... can't possibly last. But I hope it does.
I just caught my second episode of this show and I was mildly surprised at how interesting the show is. I'm gonna continue to watch it and see how it develops.
Through the first 3 episodes in its normal timeslot, it has been number one. This past Friday, it dropped to #2 due to the Medical Investigation/Third Watch crossover event. CBS has ordered 4 more episodes for this season, bringing it to a total of 13 episodes. I say it's time to bring it out of the Friday night deathslot, and give it a more promenient time.
Ugh, a so-so episode tonight. It wasn't compelling at all. There was no "bite" to it. This, combined with being in the Friday night deathslot, might hurt it. The only thing interesting was the evolving (?) relationship between Charlie and his student.
The other Math professor is starting to get too quirky. I don't know if his line was funny or not (not exact quote): "Where else will you find the least libidinous place? The Math Department." Charlie's reaction was priceless. -
OMG, I was almost bowled over after seeing Sarah Wayne Callies's name in the guest credits because she was "Jane" in the WB's "Tarzan" show last year. And it turns out she was Don's SO while he was in Albuquerque. Anyhow, interesting episode so far about counterfeiting money by using artists to produce the artwork for the printing plates.
I am enjoying this show also, although you have to wonder how long they can play out the numbers theme relating to crime fighting. Hopefully they can keep coming up with fresh ideas as I would like to see this show get a healthy run.
This time the relationship between the brothers was good. I really liked the end when Charlie went over to Don's "place" (ugh, talk about bachelorhood, huh) and they shared a brotherly moment. Krumholtz really showed some of the pain of Charlie being "left out" at not knowing Don lived with Kim.
And no quirky Math professor!
The case was all right. I liked the angle that the wife was giving clues in her artwork. And the previews last week gave away a slight spoiler this time.
According to TV Tome, starting with last week's episode "Counterfeit Reality," new episodes were ordered by CBS due to the success of the first six episodes. Sweet! They list 12 episodes so far, although the last few episode titles say "TBA."
Last night's episode had me thinking, "Oh no, not another sniper storyline" which made me remember the CSI: Miami 1st season episode about a sniper.
But the writers smartly took it in a different direction although I think they tried to stuff too many different elements into the hour. This made the payoff lacking a little. But it was fresh seeing Charlie's predicament in the climax.
Four new episodes starting next Friday!
Has it been renewed for a full season? Second season?
