Well Van now that Avatar is a success, has Jim finally been able to approve new transfers for Aliens, Terminator, The Abyss and/or True Lies.

Im hoping that the sucess of Avatar will push to quicker release of Cameron films on bluray.

Will you be working on the Avatar bluray?

rumor has it that both titanic and the abyss are coming to bluray later this year.. probably around the release of avatar since they are both from fox. I read about it at the digitalbits.com a few months ago.

We already know that Aliens is apparently in the pipeline, which leaves one unanswered question: True Lies, anyone?

    Titanic is a Paramount title.

I still think it is apalling that two major films (The Abyss & True Lies) have sat around virtually ignored on DVD for so long. Van can you confirm that Fox is acting as the distributor when it comes to Cameron's films and that Lightstorm Entertainment is the actual producer of the content on the DVDs/Blu-rays? I ask because I don't trust Fox to handle the releases since I've seen too many disappointing Blu-rays come out of the studio, particularly of catalog films. At this point I don't care about an extras-laden release if I can just get great-looking BDs of a couple of films that are relatively recently-made and shouldn't look like they belong in a bargain bin.

I had the opportunity to talk to James Cameron last week and asked now that Avatar is done, if we would see any movement on True Lies and the Abyss. He said that he has three projects he will be working on this year: Convert Titanic to 3D, and getting the Abyss and True Lies out on Blu-ray. Keep in mind that if he is working on them this year they may not make it out until 2011, but at least they will have some attention from him this year.

The Titanic 3D thing has been known for a while, except Cameron did confirm it more recently that it would be released in 2012 to celebrate the 100th anniversary.

I am quite confident that The Abyss and True Lies will both be released THIS year as Fox is really pushing to cash in on all things Cameron this year.

2 under-rated films which absolutely need the HD treatment, I'd like some extras with True Lies this time around, but hey, I'd be happy to just own the films provided The Abyss includes both cuts.

Fox's Alien Anthology has already been set for November/December release (depending where abouts in the world you are). so Aliens is already spoken for.

I'm curious as to whether the new Lowry restored Terminator will make it out this year or not...

    Any hints there Mr Ling?

I would never own a film such as Avatar on any format and goes with Titanic. Avatar is only successful due to the added fees of 3D. Is also copy paste convert of Dances with Wolves, The Last Samurai, Ferngully, Pocahontas and some other films but set in space with ten foot tall Smurf cats.

Why was Skynet Edition of Terminator 2 Blu-ray used with too much digital noise reduction? Already own the Japanese two disc Blu-ray and would buy Skynet only for extras. Will The Terminator new release on Blu-ray be removed of film grain? Will it contain original theater audio in lossless format? Will it contain all the extras from the Special Edition DVD including more?

Will the color timer person from Avatar stay away from the other movies Mr. Cameron has worked on and get the original cinematographers to work on the film? For new extras for these releases, no mention of Avatar would be nice. Just only for the movie.

"9/11" is very poor excuse not to release True Lies again. Good I own Japanese DVD of film.

Avatar made $750 million. That gross was boosted by 3-D ticket prices but even if there was no extra fee for 3-D, it still would be one of the biggest hits ever made.

Only a financial hit and you are only looking for Domestic gross which is USA and Canada. How much money any movie makes doesn't mirror how well it is to different people. Honestly I am waiting for Cameron to make True Lies 2 instead of more of this lazy hyperbole.

This is a thread concerning Blu-ray releases of Cameron's films that may or may not be produced by Van Ling.

This is NOT a thread in which to bash Avatar or Titanic which seems to be the oh-so-cool thing internet nerds just love to do.

There is an entire sub-forum devoted to discussing films good or bad. This isn't it.

Yes, I was only looking at the U.S. and Canadian grosses but it made another $2 billion dollars everywhere else around the world and is the highest grossing movie ever made so it was a massive hit. You can remove the $750 million that it made in the U.S. and it's still the highest grossing movie ever made worldwide . And while you didn't like it, making nearly $3 billion dollars means that a huge number of people did like it.

Money doesn't mean whether or not people enjoyed a particular film. Someone could've paid the standard fee along with the 3D surcharge and hated the movie. Box office means nothing concerning personal choices people have towards any given film.

Yes I would have preferred Mr. Cameron to make True Lies 2 and not give very poor excuse of Oh no 9/11 happened we can't have any characters kicking terrorist behind! Very quite hypocritical.

Mr. Van Ling, no more DNR for any title and you tell Mr. Cameron to not mention Avatar at all for any extra. Tell him to get original cinematographer for The Terminator with DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0, The Abyss with first disc seamless branching and lossless audio and True Lies as two disc with of course lossless audio. Yes I very much hate digital noise reduction and edge enhancement. Terminator 2 Skynet Edition is good only for the extra content and not for film picture quality.

I buy these movies because they are own movie, not to be lambasted with Avatar drivel and dross.

So I take it some of the critically flummoxed titles in 2008 such as Transformers Revenge of the Fallen made alot of money since a huge number of people liked it? No. It is because they went and paid to see it.

Of course, a huge number of people liked Transformers. I thought it was terrible and can not understand how it made hundreds of millions but it did. When a movie makes more than $800 million worldwide, a huge number of people liked it.

As has been said, this section is about Van Ling's work so this discussion should move into the Avatar or Transformer threads in the Movies section.

I've been hearing RUMORS of Abyss delays, but nothing definite. Important thing is True Lies and the Abyss are receiving attention at the studio and are in the planning or beginning of the authoring stage. I would be surprised if we don't get at least one and hopefully both late next year.

Still don't understand. I paid to go see Transformers 2 but I didn't like it as much as I liked first one and cartoon from 1980's.

Where is True Lies and The Abyss? I still having the D Theater tapes. What gives?

It was broadcast in high definition a long time ago. Is just a recording, nothing more. But I did transfer it to my 6TB hard drive and made 25GB Blu-ray of it. Not bad though but am waiting for official not homemade one. I like the longer one more for The Abyss.

No I did not, shall not or will ever download, rent, watch and anything else for Avatar. No am not interested.

Wait I did also transfer DTheater tape of True Lies to hard drive then also made homemade one. Sometimes actual Blu-ray is better from United States but it's nice to import too. Other times it gets very lazy.

Since MGM isn't in bankruptcy, does this mean Van Ling will work more on The Terminator re-release on Blu-ray with no digital scrubbing and 1.0 track as lossless? Why not make it two discs? No Digital Copy thanks I use them for coasters.
