Thanks for compiling that rather comprehensive list, Nils. I think!?!?!?

There's at least 15 definites for me (including ROTK)! And I've been cutting back my purchases! Ouch! :D

And that's on top of the Star Wars Trilogy at the end of September....

Eight Crazy Nights... The Adam Sandler animated movie?

Why is this getting a two disc special edition? That's an odd move, I didn't think anybody seriously liked it.

The same with Gothika... Didn't think there was that many fans of it to warrant a two disc se. Oh well. :)

I don't think it's that movie, because it was released as a 2-disc set last year IIRC. Amazon doesn't list any release called "Eight Crazy Nights" coming out 10/5. I'm thinking it may just be getting a price drop that day, and Nils thought it was a new release.

There's a great chance that Criterion will announce a November release date for Bergman's Fanny & Alexander.

Pretty big title, and I'm very excited about it finally getting released.

Is that true? That's great news. Excellent movie, and splendid series. Do you think they'll release the movie version or the TV series?

Besides, I remember a wonderful "making of doc" I taped from TV (back in the day) which was as great as the movie itself. Unfortunately I erased it by accident and since then I'm desperate to get it on DVD. Criterion has heard my prayer.

This one's new to me. Is this the version that played on ABC a few months ago "with never before seen footate"?

And I am shocked (shocked!) to see that Invader Zim Vol. 3 (Oct 12) is nowhere on that list. :) That's (sadly) my most awaited purchase that month.

Hmm... I wasn't aware there was even a region 2 DVD of this available. What can you tell us, Arthur?

There has never been an R1 release, but there was an R2 UK release. Unfortunately it was a pan&scam transfer from the 1982 EMI video master - the PQ is, let's just say... not good. :)

There was also a German version that was released that was at least letterboxed in OAR 2.35:1 and with removable German subtitles, but the PQ was still not very good.

Unfortunately all of these DVDs and the upcoming R1 release are the Theatrical release, and not the highly regarded 3-hour Director's Cut.

Hopefully someday Paramount will realize that there is enough interest in it to justify the cost of bringing it out on DVD.

In the meantime, I am very excited to have this fine film get an R1 release, and will undoubtedly be the best quality of all the non R1 releases - or at least we can hope that is the case.

I don't know what I was thinking of - I have the region 2. For some reason, I could have sworn it was region 1 and from Paramount. Go know.
