No picture on TV (1 Viewer)

A coworker is having a problem with his 2 year old Panny 24 inch TV/VCR combo. Basically, he has sound but no picture. When playing a tape in the VCR, same problem.

All I can think of is that the picture tube died but since the TV is not the old I wonder what else could cause this. I have become his source for A/V info and this one has me stumped, any ideas?

Every body thinks the picture tube is bad. When in reality less than 5% are bad in direct view. And a bit higher for Projo's.
