Hey all
I have a little problem and I was hoping someone might be able to help me. I go online though my Step Dad's Cable connection. We use Sygate and share the connection that way. I am trying to setup Outlook to search newsgroups on our cable service, which is AT&T @home. On his computer I simply have to put the news server as "news" and it works fine. But my computer being the secondary makes it a little harder.
When I make a news account on my own Computer, what can I put for the news server so it knows to route to his Computer and then online? Or can it be done at all?
Thanks

It's been awhile since I've used SyGate and my memory is fuzzy, but it shouldn't be any different. Are you saying you tried just using "news", and it didn't work? How about the full name of the news server (ie. news.wherever.com)?

if you are just trying to find out the name of the server, then thats easy. first, if you have main connectnion running through a router (and by the sound of your msg you do), unplug it from there and plug the line straight into one of your computers. from there assuming your running windows go to the dos command windows if you're running win98,me etc or the command prompt if you're running 2k. then type dns news. it should show you the ip of the news server. by the way, you shouldn't use outlook for newsgroups, its a pos. get a real newsgroup program like free agent.

Yeah I am trying to just get the news server address but I can't seem to find it. I tried putting just "News" when it asks for the NNTP server but it doesn't work. My only guess is it isn't working because I am on the secondary Computer.
I actually have Free Agent. Just trying to get Outlook to work first and then I'll switch to it. I didn't understand that command to find the news dns. I can just look up the address on the main computer... but how do I do it?
Thanks again.

heh, sorry I kinda mixed up dos commands with my irc commands ;p . anyway once you have the dos windows or command window open, type "ping news" (w/o the quotes) that will give you the ip of the newsgroup server. actually I think setting up a ng server is alot easier in agent that outlook...but then again I hate outlook so whoknow
