George Harrison's 33 1/3
It has a dual meaning ...33 1/3 looks like the Hindu "ommmmmm" chant

"Turn On Some Music" by Marvin Gaye. A song about having sex with music played on a vinyl records changer.

"Can't Stand Losing You" by the Police:

"I see you sent my letters back
And my LP records and they're all scratched"

The dual meaning with GH 33 1/3 was that he himself was 33 1/3 when the record was made. Unfortunately, by the time it was released, he was 33 2/3. This story is from Nicholas Schaffner's "Beatles Forever".

Isn't 18 with a bullet about a kid with a gun?

Lyrics:

I'm Eighteen with a bullet,
Got my finger on the trigger.

or is it a metaphor?

Very recent song missed: Springsteen's "Mary's Place" from The Rising:

"Your favorite record's on the turntable
I drop the needle and pray"

I would be remiss if I didn't mention:

Steely Dan's Pretzel Logic from the album of the same name:
Yes I'm dying to be a star and make them laugh
Sound just like a record on the phonograph
Those days are gone forever
Over a long time ago, oh yeah

Real Name
Henry Gale
"Phonograph Blues" Robert Johnson
"Now, we played it on the sofa, now
we played it 'side the wall
My needles have got rusty, baby
they will not play at all"
Of course, this actually has NOTHING to do with phonographs.

Here's some younger stuff:
"Radio Player" Allister
"There's a broken needle scratching my 45 collection
Through a burned-out, blown two-speaker combination"

Only two references I can think of right off-hand....
Blue Oyster Cult - Burning For You
"Time everlasting
Time to play B-sides
Time ain't on my side
Time I'll never know"
Judas Priest - Rock Forever...
"When the day is over,
I like to ease my mind
By jucin' up my system,
With the beat of a heavy kind
I smack a bottle open,
I crank the hi-fi high
I'm in-a seventh heaven
Ooh I can touch the sky"

How about a dirty reference...
Hot Action Cop - Fever for the Flava
Can I get a little yum, yum kitty kitty
Just a little sumthin sumthin itty bitty
Do you wanna get triple x groovie
Gimme gimme some of that kinda movie
And let me spin ya like a record wicky wicky
Let me get you butt naked licky licky
Here we go yo here’s the scenario
Gonna strip you down like a car in the barrio
What can you expect when the cover art for the album looks like this?! :D

Rich- nice Zappa quote!
"They're pretty good musicians. They're pretty good musicians."
I guess I have nothing of value to contribute to this thread otherwise. :)
