Bought my iPad the first weekend it was out. I remember

coming to work (I work in a large facility) and it was all over

the building that "Ron Epstein has an iPad." Everybody was

stopping in my office asking to take a look.

I remember showing it to a few of the women up in the front

office. One of them exclaimed, "Ron, that iPad is going to

attract women just as if you owned a puppy."

Well....not quite....but it did lead to an interesting flight.

Today was the first time I brought my iPad on a cross-country

flight. I loaded it up with a few films that I converted to MP4.

So, I am sitting in an aisle seat with my iPad watching

a movie. I must say, the picture quality was outstanding.

Looking around, I saw people peering at me from seats

beside and behind. It was if I was holding something

rather magical in my seat.

Next thing I know the flight attendant is tapping on my

shoulder.

"Excuse me," he says, "Do you work for Apple?" He

must have noticed the Apple logo polo I was wearing.

"No" I replied, "I just bought the shirt at their Cupertino

Store."

The flight attendant was enamored with my iPad.

"Oh, I am a big Apple fan and I was thinking of buying

a new Macbook Pro or the iPad. How do you like the

iPad? The screen is so beautiful."

I went on to explain to him all the cool things the

iPad does. Even gave it to him to hold and try for

himself.

"Can I get you anything from First Class?" he asked.

I said no thanks. "We just heated up cookies I can

get you some." I again declined because I didn't want

to piss off the other coach passengers around me by

having the flight attendant serve me food out of first class.

The attendant stopped by again several times to

admire the iPad. We talked a little more about Apple

and the business he was trying to start. At one point

I got on line to go to the bathroom at the back of the

plane and he came up to me asking if I wanted to use

the bathroom in First Class. I again declined. No sense

doing that kind of stuff in front of people in coach.

It was just rather interesting how my iPad got me

all these perk offerings on a Continental flight. Wish

the flight attendant was female as it would have made

the situation more interesting, but it was kind of cool

nonetheless that my iPad attracted that kind of attention.

BTW, after years of having to take out a heavy laptop

to watch a movie on a plane, you have no idea what it's

like to have a lightweight player like the iPad that you can

watch 3 films and still have plenty of battery power left.

(spitting out water)

That's it. I'm getting rid of my iPad.

But really....if he was....I wasn't picking up on it
and he didn't seem the type.

If only you had an iPhone 4, you could write a story for the Penthouse Forum. ;)

Sam, who the heck knows. I would certainly feel embarrassed

if he was hitting on me. I am now having second thoughts about

everything because he did spend a lot of time talking to me in
coach simply based on the fact that I was wearing an Apple shirt,

had an iPad, and he was a big Apple fan himself.

He certainly came to me several times throughout the flight offering

me things from first class -- but then again he was very apologetic

that he was bothering me with questions while I was trying to watch

a movie on my iPad.

I would hope he was just trying to be nice. Maybe it is obvious to

everyone but me.

You guys are really making me feel embarrassed here but I'm having

a good laugh alongside all of you.

Haha glad you are taking it in stride bud. I was at lunch today and two stunning waitresses at the Monmouth Mall Wild Wings went absolutely gaga over my iPad when they seated me and fellow HTFer Jay Hui. Sadly, I think they really were into the pad and not me =)

Ron,

In my modest travels, I've found that, especially on the long-distance flights, some flight attendants really enjoy chatting and passing the time with the travelers. If you find a guy that like on a long flight, hang out in the galley with him or her. They can have great stories, be a good way to pass the time, and you'll get some free snacks. And if they're hitting on you...well, so be it :)

Regardless, great story!

Ron-

I, too, have had an iPad since day one. I flew to Denver on 7/20 whipped that sucker out as soon as electronics were permitted. I wanted to re-watch a film I am reviewing for the forum. I never got to it. Luckily, I had one seatmate & an empty in the middle. We were in the last row. My seatmate, the (female) flight attendants and EVERYBODY who lined up to use the restroom wanted to ask questions, touch it, feel the weight in their hands. How could I refuse? I love the little bugger and the only real way for others to learn to love it, is to handle it.

The flight back was a bit different. I donned my Motorola ROKR S9-HD Bluetooth headset and watched UP and most of WALL-E. Also had an empty seat in the row. People were watching along with me, but I was too wiped to do the demo again.
