The Sony SDDS that arrived a few years ago from USA.

Giving the quick basic run though. I'd still needed at time an older version of Windows and the remote program controller that has all been since fitted in months after I bought it. Also get a few D-25 leads for AUX 1 and 2 and System out and some rack-ears.

My cat shows curiosity giving it the sniff over and approves of it for a new cat napping spot. :P

I'm so liking the OVERHEAD SURROUNDS have since 1977 and 1989 at the cinema.

I wouldn't mind removing the control 5 maybe another four should and would cover the room in OVERHEAD SURROUND.

Dolby Stereo SRA5 the real SR sound.

Wasn't Dolby SR just an improved noise reduction system? It worked with the matrix system, correct, or is there more to it?

It improved the dynamic range too.

Ahh yes, I remember when Dolby C hit the analog home market, they claimed improved dynamic range over Dolby B while still meeting those standards for tape hiss reduction.

CONTACT (1997) Dolby Stereo Digital TrueHD 5.1 / Lucasfilm Ltd THX Sound System / overhead below surround expansion.

Experimenting with the playback of the mix on chapter 30 when a jet plane starts to come in at around 1.41.45 on left surround arrays that gradually grows louder as its getting nearer to the ship. Roughly at around 1.41.52 it pans overhead above the seating area and gradually gets louder as the plane comes into view on screen at 1.41.56.

The way the mix holds on the jet plane while only listening multiples of surrounds.
Switching in the PLIIx I can tell its done something different between the side wall above and below surround arrays by removing the + phase phantom (confirmed) while turning down the side wall and back wall surrounds on the amp in the kitchen and coming back into the room I can hear the what has happened with the overhead.
Switching the above and below surrounds off to normal mode with just the PLIIx expanding the split surrounds and muting the side wall arrays on the SDDS remote on the pc. The rear back PLIIx with jet plane fades in at around 1.41.51. Jet onscreen at 1.41.56 (but its the sound and the visual continuity that bothers me).Its still holding on the back wall even at around 1.41.57 to 1.42.00 where it fades out and looking at the distance from back wall to the front where the LCR are and some of the area on the ceiling that hasn't been fitted with more extra JBL control 5, I'm thinking.

The jet is on the right side wall arrays, okay. But the continuity tells me it should be at the back on the back wall. When it fades and pans over to centre back PLIIx, so what is the plane doing circling around behind a few seconds extra due to the windy rainy storm then heads forwards again, I don't think so.

If I had another two extra cheap AVR with PLIIx I could wire that up on the side wall surrounds and the other to the back wall surround outputs for 7.1.

The PL only has basic 4 channels LR for side wall centre for back wall or overhead or use the surround rear for overhead or below?

The PLII has 5 channels to play with LR for the side wall centre for back wall or overhead or use the rear back for surrounds on it for the back wall surrounds.
PLIIx has 7 channels to play with LR for side wall the centre front I'm thinking what would it be like if that was fitted to the ceiling slightly in front of the room? The other side surrounds fitted where? Above or below? The rear back surrounds fitted to the ceiling. If I only had another few cheap matched AVR as they have their own amplifiers so no need to buy extra amps, although if channels need EQ-ing then its extra amps as the RCA outputs would have to be used.

Chapter 31, 1.45.17 when the jet plane flies in from the surrounds, this time just using Dolby CP45 to expand the surrounds and with surround sub bass extension it thunders around side wall above and below.

Onscreen stage it right where it mostly appears at with whistle jet roar and mix is different on centre stage and left stage. Thing that bothers me is when I hear jets in real world flying around its often loudest at the aft of plane which is where the engine is.

When seeing commercial airliners flying overhead at night some 4 or so miles up when the outside is fairly quiet still. I can't hear the plane until a few seconds after it has passed directly overhead and heading outwards away where I hear the soft faintness of the engines maybe 40db or lower.

It looks and sounds so realistic seeing the real thing.

Still CONTACT is cool sci-fi film. It would be awesome with Atnos-PlusII-Xextra with 15 stage channels and below surrounds and extra more around the corners of the room above/below as that huge machine transport with the rings moving around on many dimensions.

It was great on the large screen down town with nice lens on the projector that gave it a 70mm look.

The visuals at 1.56.04 with wormhole to right of the screen and gradually the pod is ether moving or being pulled into it spiralling down though some colorfully gateway time tunnel.

It sounds cool with the centre channel muted with only stage left/right/sub-LFE.1 and 12 surrounds/sub surrounds running. Ellie, dialogue echos around on each brief stop. Her voice and face morphs to stage right and echo away on the surrounds and some below echo surrounds, wow what a Dolby TrueHD surround, trip

Region 2, DVD, TOS STAR TREK "The Enemy Within" Dolby Digital 5.1, has a neat surround moment that is off screen when a crewman stumbles and falls off a rock hurts himself and is covered in some strange yellow ore that affects the transporter.

Kick and Sulu, hear sound off in the distance ahead of them but we as listeners hear to the right side wall or behind depending on the arrangement of the surrounds in ones home?
