Ron - a good 3D movie to try out is Joe Dante's The Hole. Unfortunately, it is not available on 3D Blu-ray here in the US (Amazon UK does sell the 3D Blu-ray version, but it is Region 2). Fortunately, Netflix does offer it in 3D on their streaming service. Unfortunately, Netflix is currently having issues with 3D delivery, and have temporarily removed the 3D versions of movies in their library.

@Roland

Thanks for the info, i like this one better than number 5, i'll probably get it next year.

I wish i had bought The Hole last year when it was selling for a mere £9.99, for some reason ( limited copies made ? ) it is now selling for a lot more money these days.

In another thread Netflix 3D is back up with just a few movies. I'll have to watch The Hole in 3D when its available.

Just to keep this thread updated...

I am still in a holding period in getting this display swapped.

It's just that time of the year and I know that the retailer is swamped with deliveries.

Hopefully I will have something to report back on in the next week or so.

Any news yet?

Rickard,

I am in a holding pattern right now.

The exchange is due to be made but not until the first week of January.

I was told to enjoy my Panasonic until then.

Aha, I see. I have been reading about your concern about 3D but I cannot comment on that since
I have an Oppo BDP-83, with no 3D support, connected to my 64F8500....

Maybe people are not buying into the 4K hype?
Look at the picture, I would have to sit ridiculously close to the screen (0.7 x width of TV) to appreciate the resolution of 4K.
4K would just be overkill for where people normally sit in front of a TV.
For OLED, I decided to skip that until it matures and comes down in price.
The 64F8500 was the first (and last?) plasma to be usuable outside the bat caves so I went for that.

I've seen similar charts for years, I think they are a good rule of thumb but if you are looking at them as hard and fast laws you might just be overthinking it a bit.Ron, other than the allure of saying you own an OLED what's the impetus for that statement? And note I'm not even saying that you should buy that specific model, I'm saying if I were in the market for a high end panel today I would not buy ANYTHING till I see what comes out of CES. CES sets the tone for the whole year. We are 2 weeks away (TONS closer than when you first started this journey), I would hate to see you have waited all this time and then turn around and say 'if I had only waited another 2 weeks I would have known about X, Y and Z."

I have seen 4K (OLED in fact).

It looks great but as has already been stated, it's not night and day over 2K displays.

The future is obviously OLED. I think that is the ultimate goal to get to.

However, today -- right now -- these plasmas are the best thing going until
OLED prices come down. That may take 2 years or more to get to.

I don't want LED. I don't need 4K when there are no 4K broadcasts or discs to support it.

Rickard,

How does the 3D look on your F8500?

I hear all kinds of complaints about crosstalk and brightness pops in the 3D.

Are you seeing any of that? Are you completely satisfied with the 3D?

Ron fair enough, but my advice still holds. We'll see a whole new batch of 1080p Plasma's refreshed in 2 weeks too. I wouldn't buy anything from 2013 unless you were absolutely sure that the price was worth missing out on 2014 spec bumps.

I've advised people to "underspend" till HDMI2.0/OLED shakes itself out. There are two possible scenarios about Panny dumping plasma...1. They are headed for the hills and ceding the market.2. They (along with Mits, Tosh, Hitachi and Sony) are ready to kick the Koreans off the big boy table with DuPont.

I'm fascinated with the promises that 4k and OLED displays hold for the future.

For now though, I'm so happy with what I already have that words can't express! :)
