I was hoping Anchor Bay's new EMMANUELLE COLLECTION box (FWIW, the D'Amato films only have one 'M' in the title onscreen) would be larger than a three-film set, simply as there's still more than three D'Amato/Gemser Emanuelle titles that haven't been released on DVD. They all have different titles but I think the number of Emanuelle films still MIA is around five or six - Black Emanuelle, Black Emanuelle Goes East, Emanuelle - Queen of Sados, Emanuelle Vs. Violence to Women and so on. I guess I'll be getting the box regardless, and I can always chase the errant titles up through 'other sources'...

DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE (I don't know why Anchor Bay is going with the title CEMETARY MAN when the film wasn't a hit under that title in the States, but is widely known among horror fans by the original Italian title, even in the English language print) needs a good S.E... Soavi did an Italian-language commentary for the outstanding Region 2 16x9 remaster from Medusa a couple of years ago, but a perfect Anchor Bay edition would be a nice. Why aren't they finishing their Soavi collection with THE SECT though?

I don't follow most of Anchor Bay's TV titles, but from the little I've read, you might want to remain cautious about Greatest American Hero. Read towards the bottom of the 21 Jump St. review thread, and it turns out the songs have been replaced and the episodes are the edited syndication cuts. Don't want to be a downer, but I'm a little concerned about GAH now.

Turning Point was a movie i always confused with Julia- which was another 'womans picture' that came out within a yr of TP (iirc) and also featured (two) womens heads over a black background prominently on the advertising art.
Maltins guide give TP a mediocre rating, but i remember Julia being quite a good movie.

wouldn't mind seeing Fox(or AB) release that sometime.

funny that all these new announcements actually have time frames attached, while some of the previous titles they mentioned are still more vauge (i'm primarily talking about Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry- possibly my most wanted release next year from any studio) which i guess means that it is more likely for very late next year...well past Drive-in season

Sorry guys - I've got to cop the thread for a minute...

Anthony - I liked your post and decided to look into it. I got bored once and compiled a list of all of the Emmanuelle films, both with 1 M and 2 M's, along with their multiple titles. This was mostly through IMDB but their site is a bit screwed up on these titles. I ended up with 80 movies under 245 different titles.

Anyway, I looked today by D'Amato, and according to them, he did 9 Emanuelle films that she was in. She did 11 more for others.

I do have 5 of them with her already (2 w/him), but my list has 'Black Emanuelle goes East' as an alternate title to 'Emanuelle in Bangkok', and 'Emanuelle vs. Violence to Women' as an alternate title to 'Emanuelle Around the World'.

I don't know how accurate my list is but I'd hate to have you get them by the alternate title and discover that you already had it. If you know different, I'd like to hear it.

We now return you to the regular discussion!

Glenn

Regarding the Mischief situation, what is Anchor Bay's history of releasing dual-format releases? I'm pretty sure I've seen some AB discs which offer both OAR and full-frame options.

VH1 Classics is always showing the "Drive My Car" video from the movie. I don't know if they will be able to include that. Heather Graham might hope they won't. She is dancing with the Coreys in it. The movie is one thing, but starring in a music video with them? That has to be embarassing.

I seem to remember an interview with Zorro the Gay Blade's director Peter Medak where he mentions a cut sequence with John Carridine as Zorro's dad or grandad. Wonder if this will show up on the SE??

JIM THE WORLD GREATEST is a universal film, which anchor bay doesnt not have a deal with anymore, so best bet is write to MCA, or perhaps criterion, whom they do have a deal with?

Kind of spotty.

They used to release a lot more dual format discs (with both versions) than they do now.

Some notable releases...

"Halloween" (THX) had both widescreen and pan and scan versions on the same disc. Which is an utter abomination since (a) Halloween was shot scope, and (b) John Carpenter hates pan and scan. If I wanted to be cynical, I could say that AB put the pan and scan on there to waste space and justify the limited edition and a second release of the television version.

"Evil Dead 2" SE and "Army of Darkness" standard edition -- both of these movies had open-matte fullscreen versions available on the DVD, along with the widescreen transfers.

All three of those are older releases, and I can't think of any recent AB releases that have had both versions; they generally only have widescreen now.

Most notably, AB's recent SE of "Evil Dead" only had a widescreen transfer, and that's one movie where the proper aspect ratio is in dispute amongst fans. (The Anchor Bay release had a newly matted 1.85:1 transfer; there is some debate as to whether to proper ratio is a full-frame 1.37:1 or slightly matted to 1.66:1.)

Glenn, thanks for the info on the D'Amato EMANUELLE titles. I was flicking through the UK 'Delirium' softcover (a big Italian exploitation filmography for 1975-1979, published in 1998) and noticed the same info that you came across. There do seem to be a couple of other D'Amato-Gemser titles missing from AB's forthcoming box, but it's nice to know that some of the main ones are being covered.

Shriek Show's EROTIC NIGHTS OF THE LIVING DEAD from D'Amato (in the 'Explicit Uncut Version', full of graphic material that I doubt will be appearing in screenshot form on HTF anytime soon) also has Gemser in it, along with a few crazy zombies and some relentless porn footage that makes me wonder how the concurrently released shorter version would play. Any young cult exploitation fan who picked up that along with Blue Underground's EMANUELLE IN AMERICA should be wary of watching them as a double-feature while his aunt was in the next room, that's for sure.
