I personally think DEATH WISH is one of the most underrated films of the decade. A perfect film with a great performance from Bronson. It's always shocking to hear the same guy made DEATH WISH 2, which is quite horrid but it's so bad you've gotta have a good time with it. It's a tad bit too violent for me to fully enjoy, especially the X-rated cut but I watch it often. DEATH WISH 3 is the wildest action film of the decade. Most think it's badly made but I think it's quite clear that it's a spoof of the genre. The original script wasn't even a DW movie but at the last minute they changed Bronson's characters name so that they could cash in on the series.

THE MECHANIC is Bronson at his best. THE NIGHTCOMERS is one of the few Brando films that I can't watch over and over.

I've only caught up with THE NIGHTCOMERS and THE BIG SLEEP last year (the former as a tribute to Brando's passing) but it must be said that some of the others have been viewed ages ago so that I only have a vague recollection of them; in fact, the only ones I've watched more than once are, incidentally, both Westerns and I particularly recommend LAWMAN, which is an offbeat, underrated film with an excellent cast in good form.

I'm mostly interested in his earlier British films, particularly THE SYSTEM (1964), THE JOKERS (1967) and I'LL NEVER FORGET WHAT'S'ISNAME (1967; I should pick up the Anchor Bay DVD). Also, I ought to catch up with HANNIBAL BROOKS (1969) the next time it gets shown on Cable TV over here.


P.S. Apparently, THE NIGHTCOMERS is a favorite of Jose` Ramon Larraz's - the director of top lesbian vampires flick, VAMPYRES (1974)!

The Sentinel is one of the most underrated horror films there is. Definitely one of my personal favorites, and the book isn't bad either. Death Wish 3 gets a high rating from me due to nostalgia and the fact that it's so damn entertaining.
