Busy day so I'm picking some shorter filmographies I feel less inclined to comment on.

*1. City Of Lost Children - A- (the first subtitled film I saw in a theater, most of it I completely love, but I'm not all that fond of the ending.)
2. Delicatessen - A-
3. Amelie - B
4. A Very Long Engagement - B

5. Micmacs - B-
*6. Alien: Resurrection - C+ (The "+" being for the underwater alien scene and for continuing to use his French "stock company" like Dominique Pinon and Jean-Claude Dreyfus in a Hollywood film.)

Out of :star::star::star::star::star:

A Very Long Engagement (2004) :star::star::star::star:1/2 I enjoyed the almost meditative mood of the film a great deal.

Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le (2001)
aka Amelie :star::star::star::star: Still only seen it once, and while it has a certain lack of depth that is kind of common for Jeunet, it's just too damn cute not to appreciate.

Alien: Resurrection (1997) :star::star:1/2 The culprit here is the weak screenplay with painfully childish banter from Joss Whedon. A clear case of "garbage in, garbage out".

The City of Lost Children (1995) :star::star::star:1/2 Again, only seen it once, and again, the typical lack of substance, but love those visuals and the far-out world Jeunet created. I have to admit, there is probably more depth to it than I caught from one viewing.

Delicatessen (1991) :star::star::star:1/2 Basically "ditto" from City.

Foutaises (1989)
... aka Things I Like, Things I Don't Like (UK)
Pas de repos pour Billy Brakko (1984)
Bunker de la dernière rafale, Le (1981)
... aka The Bunker of the Last Gunshots (USA)
Manège, Le (1980)
Évasion, L' (1978)

I own DVDs of all those I have seen. Of course, I always enjoy just looking at any Jeunet film.

You're slipping Brook. You picked a director who actually made a film I like.

I really need to give COLC another go. Mostly I remember gorgeous art direction and cinematography but obnoxious characters.

Micmacs ***

Inventive, cartoonish tale of an oddball loner who plots the downfall of the weapons manufacturers indirectly responsible for the death of his father and the bullet lodged in his brain. But he can't do it without the help of his newfound misfit friends! Charming and brimming with eye candy, just don't expect another Amelie.
