I'm also noticing that this is going to be coming out in volumes instead of one whole complete set but at least we now know this set won't be the Max Fleischer/Famous Studios cartoons that would be a continuation of the original releases from a few years ago. Was hoping they would release this as a whole set instead of volumes, but at least we have the cover art and it'll be available on May 7, 2013

Hard to say. I'll probably get it regardless (I would prefer pressed dvds of course).

I grew up on these but will probably skip it. I'm more interested in the Fleischers.

Well, there are over 200 made-for-TV Popeye cartoons , so volumes makes sense. Even the amount of cartoons included on this is uncharacteristically generous (although 36 cartoons on each disc will likely negatively affect the compression).

The retail arm of WHV is restoring the remaining theatricals to tie in with the new CG movie. I'll be saving up for that.

It's described as "made to order" on the product page.

Usually when Warner Archive does a pre-order like this, though, the first batch are pressed DVD's. I am going to pre-order to make sure that I do get pressed discs.

Every title they sell pressed or not is described this way.

As long as the episodes are in good condition, I'll look forward to this. These are the Popeyes I grew up with on WNEW-5 in New York, for the most part*. I wouldn't even know about the Fleischers until the Turner stations.

    * WNEW did mix in Famous shorts too (and most with the creepy AAP logo!), but most of what was aired in the '80s were KFS.

EDIT: they are attributing the TV shorts to Paramount on the WBShop site????
