Does anyone remember that show Monsters? Don't know when it was originally on, but I remember watching it on sci-fi some years ago. I'd love for this show to come out in seasoned box sets. Anyone else?

ADDED: I just voted for this show to be released at TVshowsondvd.com and there have only been 34 votes total for this show! And I checked out tvtome.com and this show ran from 1988-1991 with a total 72 episodes.

I must say, I must have somehow missed this along the way, because it doesn't ring a bell and looking over the IMDB entry doesn't jog any memories. Was this a syndicated show perhaps, and either ran late at night or not at all in Memphis (which is where I had just arrived in '88)? Or, if it was ONLY on The Sci Fi Channel, then that explains it as I didn't bother with cable TV during that time (and have again eschewed it today, for different reasons).
The fact that it's from the same folks as Tale From The Darkside is intriguing.
The guest list is amazing, too:
  • David McCallum (VR.5)
  • Andrea Thompson (NYPD Blue)
  • Tempestt Bledsoe (The Cosby Show)
  • Meat Loaf (music artist...a concert t-shirt she wore got me and my wife together originally!)
  • Mary Waranov (Eating Raoul)
  • Laraine Newman (Saturday Night Live)
  • Frank Gorshin ("The Riddler" on 1960's Batman)
  • Tori Spelling (Beverly Hills 90210)
  • Teri Copley (We Got It Made) and Kent McCord (Adam-12/Galactica '80/Farscape)
  • Adrienne Barbeau (Maude, Swamp Thing)
  • Linda Blair (The Exorcist) and Rob Morrow (Northern Exposure)
  • Imogene Coca (Imogene Coca Show, Vacation)
  • Darren McGavin (Kolchak)
  • Marc McClure (Superman, Back To The Future)
  • Soupy Sales (The Soupy Sales Show, Donkey Kong cartoon)
  • Gina Gershon (Showgirls, Bound)
  • Richard Moll (Night Court)
  • Barbara Billingsley (Leave It To Beaver)
  • Melba Moore (Falcon Crest)
  • Leif Garrett (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band)
  • Steve Buscemi (Armageddon)
  • Jerry Stiller (Seinfeld) and Anne Meara (Fame)
  • Orson Bean (Mary Hartman Mary Hartman, Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman
  • Barry Nelson (Climax!'s Casino Royale)
  • Troy Donahue (Surfside 6)
  • Abe Vigoda (Barney Miller, Fish)
  • Joe Flaherty (SCTV)
  • Juliet Mills (Avanti!)
  • Ahmad Rashad (Minnesota Vikings, NBC Sportscaster)
  • Julie Brown (MTV, Earth Girls Are Easy) and Kevin Nealon (Saturday Night Live) and David Spade (Saturday Night Live, Just Shoot Me)
  • Matt LeBlanc (Friends, Charlie's Angels Full Throttle) and Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
  • Karen Valentine (The North Avenue Irregulars)
  • John Saxon (Falcon Crest, Dynasty, Nightmare on Elm Street)
  • Tom McDermott (Capt. Video And His Video Rangers)
  • Tony Shalhoub (Wings, Monk)
  • Deborah Harry (Music Artist "Blondie")
  • Laura Branigan (music artist) and Morten Downey Jr. (talk show host)
  • Richard Belzer (Homicide: LotS, Law & Order: SVU) and Shelley Berman (Mary Hartman Mary Hartman)
  • Pam Grier (Jackie Brown)

I used to watch Monsters every Friday along with Tales From the Darkside which followed. I was wondering why it has not been released on dvd. These two were great anthology series. Another good one was the Ray Bradbury Theatre.

"Monsters" ran for 3 years and was syndicated just like the prior "Tales From the Darkside". Although there were 72 episodes, only 71 aired during it's original syndication run. An episode called "The Moving Finger" by Stephen King was held back from airing anywhere. Years later, that episode was included in the rerun syndicated package and finally aired on SCI-FI Channel.

Both "Monsters" and "Darkside" were incredibly cheap productions. I think many who may have watched these at a young age may remember them better than what they actually were. Some cool guest stars, but only a handful of really good episodes, in my opinion (and I've seen every episode of both series). There were a few VHS releases of random "Darkside" and "Monsters" episodes released in the late 80's, early 90's. I don't think they did that well. I rank both shows at the same level as the wretched "Freddy's Nightmares".

I remeber it was and still is one of my faveorite anthology tv shows next to the twilight zone, tales from the darkside, and tales from the crypt..You can see it on Chiller if you have direct tv..they even have the moving finger episode which is by far one of my faves....But all anthology series are awesome if done right.....and I agree fready's nightmeres was a horrible one....and so was the 2000 twilight zone tv show remake someone SHOULD have them put out a dvd of Monsters. My top fave anthology series 1.Tales from the darkside 2.Monsters 3.Twilight Zone 4. Tales from the crypt 5. Are you afraid of the dark ( i know the last ones are child ones but they count) 6.Erie Indiana 7.Goosebumps
