Well he may have been on your list Brook, but for all the wrong reasons. The reason he's on mine, is the marvelous Bringing Up Baby tribute, What's Up, Doc?, his best film, and one you haven't even seen. [IMG]

TARGETS is clearly the best here with DAISY MILLER being the most underrated.

    Mask (1985) - 7/10
    The Last Picture Show (1971) - 6/10

I'm a sucker for Mask, don't ask me why. Maybe because Laura Dern's so gosh-darned cute in it.

    In order of merit:

    1.The Last Picture Show (1971) ****
    2.Targets (1968) ***1/2
    3.Paper Moon (1973) ***1/2
    4.What's Up, Doc? (1972) ***
    5.Mask (1985) ***
    6.Directed by John Ford (1971) ***
    7.At Long Last Love (1975) **

    Some useless trivia:

    a) I've had THE LAST PICTURE SHOW and PAPER MOON (which I haven't watched in some 20 years!) on DVD for ages but have yet to give them a spin

    b) I've been meaning to purchase WHAT'S UP, DOC? (1972; a howlingly funny movie) and DAISY MILLER (1974) on DVD since their date of release

    c) I've been meaning to rent THE CAT'S MEOW (2001) on DVD for a couple of years now

    d) Despite all evidence to the contrary, AT LONG LAST LOVE is not an unmitigated disaster

    e) I'd be interested in catching up with most of his other movies...yes, even his maligned work in the last 20 years

    f) I have the utmost respect for Bogdanovich as a man for having befriended such cinematic legends (and personal idols) like Cary Grant, Howard Hawks, Orson Welles, Fritz Lang, Samuel Fuller, Boris Karloff, etc.

Agreed. I think he's a great director gone tragically bad but I'm still interested in seeing his lesser films.
