David Lynch and David Cronenberg both turned down Jedi. IMO Richard Marquand (with Lucas no doubt peeking over his shoulder) did an excellent job with Episode VI considering all the muppets, puppets and teddy bears he had to contend with, sadly he died of a heart attack in 1987, aged just 49.

The Ewoks have not aged well. Still, I love this film and have very fond memories of seeing it in the theatre as a kid.

Hey Steve, I wonder what Lynch would have done with (to) Jedi. Not a knock on Lynch, I like his work, just not sure that he has the right "sensibilities."

You know David Lynch turned his nose up at Jedi and than went off to Mexico to direct Dune, which was trashed by critics and flopped at the box-office.
Directing muppets and ewoks wasn't his thing, but didn't mind filming people riding giant worms or have Sting prance around in a metal thong.[IMG]

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) - 5/10

I hate it a little bit more every time I see it. Until I have kids of my own, I probably won't watch it again.
