I'm getting a laptop and judging by the outside of it, it doesn't look like it's possible to put a different one in there and if I could it I'd lose my warranty. I still want to be able to hook my laptop up to the reciever whenever I can but there is no coax/optical jack on the laptop and no mini-rca inputs on the back of my reciever. I'm wondering if there's some sort of converter box I can get to solve this problem?

Hmm. some computer manufacturers stick an led at the end of their minijacks. A standard toslink cable needs an adaptor to fit.

alternatively, a mini jack to rca adaptor cable might work.

Both are cheap.

Jeremy what about the rest of the jacks? I don't think I can get all 6 channels of surround sound data out of one jack?

Any digital output will present all the channels that are on the source media, so if he gets that Dell adapter Jeremy linked to above, he'll be fine.

either that or a pin map, some old cables, a soldering iron and a steady hand.

I've done this but not for whatever proprietary mini-din thingy that Dell use on their laptops.
