Microsoft announces XNA - Future Xbox games to also play on PCs (1 Viewer)

This sounds like a brilliant move by Microsoft. They've created a unified suite of development tools which are designed to make game development even easier. The tools look extremely promising but what really drew my eye was that the tool makes it possible to develop one release (SKU) that will run on both Xboxes and PCs.

If this thing is adopted by game developers it promises to be a HUGE boon to the Xbox!

I think the title of this thread is misleading. I think the whole point of XNA is to make cross platform development easier, not to produce a single game disc that will play on both Xbox and PC.

Actually, I've read several articles which state just that. For example, from the following Video Business article:



It is certainly possible that Video Business got it wrong, but that's what the article says.

What they might mean is that you can put both the Xbox and the Win32 binaries on one disc, and one copy of all of the art assets and other such data, and Windows will ignore the Xbox executable, the Xbox will ignore the PC executable, and Bob's your uncle.
