MGM simply forgot to renew Royal Wedding. They did the same thing with "Till The Clouds Roll By". Nevertheless, they (now WB) own the original negative and if they put out the film on DVD you can rest assured it would be better then another company releasing the film using a so-so print. The film was on TCM the other day.

Forgetting to renew a copyright? Seems silly, but of course it's possible. I can't imagine how frustrating that must be. Is that what happened to Night of the Living Dead? I always wondered why it was public domain.

Night of the Living Dead was originally called Night of the Flesh Eaters and the copyright notice was on the title card. When they changed the title, they forgot to put a copyright notice on the new card, so it wasn't copyrighted.
