I really love this movie, and find it actually good for all ages.

My question is.... is there any chance a special edition might be in the works.

The first DVD was one of Tri-Star's first releases, and contains only a Full-Frame transfer.

I would really like a new 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer, 5.1 surround, and a few extras.

    Has anyone heard anything?

While I realize this isn't what you were asking...
If you have a region selectable player and are capable of handling PAL format discs, the R4 disc features a nice 2.35:1 transfer with 16x9 enhancement. Otherwise the disc is bare bones.
Sorry, haven't heard anything about a revisit. But, with Columbia Tri-Star revisiting Fly Away Home one can always hope for revisits of Matilda ( and The Karate Kid. )

I really enjoyed this movie. Unfortunately I own the widescreen ld and it has laser rot. It's now completely unplayable. I hoping for a new dvd, I refuse to watch anything that's pan and scan and hopefully Danny Devito will have a hand in the process.

Well, it was rereleased in a box set last summer. I don't know what bearing that has, and I'd guess this one isn't in high demand.

But then, who'd have expected special editions of The Net and Replacement Killers?

This is the only pan and scan disc in my house. And only because I couldn't prevent it from happening. I want to remove it and replace it with OAR. Anamorphic picture and quality sound would be minimum. This would be a great movie to give additional special features too though, as it's underappreciated.

The box set was still the same release, with Madeline...
I don't have a region free player, or a PAL converter... [IMG]
I guess I'll just have to wait. considering they planned on releasing it sometime, we'll just have to wait, but hopefully, it'll happen.

    Are you sure it's 2.35:1?

The TV version's video looks a lot like open matte 1.85:1.

Yeah it is 2.35:1 ar. From what I can play on my ld, you get the full movie. I have'nt seen it in pan & scan, it would be too painful.

Great movie, DeVito's direction is wonderfully playful and he makes good use of the 2.35:1 aspect ratio. I won't be parting with my LD until there is a wide screen DVD.

I think we need to start a signature list for this one. The family channel is showing this one tonight and of course it's pan & scam.

Actuall it's on the ted turner network TBS at 7:00 pm et, but I don't know how much better it is in widescreen since I saw it in the teaters and on VHS and noticed no major difference.

It's too bad the topic is so vague... I think more people would reply if they knew it was an OAR issue.
