We are at the Samsung Press Event in New York City where
it was just announced seconds ago by DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey
Katzenburg that all three SHREK films will be coming to Blu-ray
in 3D this year.

I don't understand your point.
If they're coming in 3-d i'm sure the 2-d will be on the disc as well.

I believe his point is that he considers 2D sufficient. What don't you understand about that?

I don't understand my reading comprehension sometimes. I thought he said "I'd" be happy.

In any event, the new Blu-ray 3D specifications require backwards compatibility. All 3D Blu-rays will play normally in 2D on existing Blu-ray players (at least in theory--I can imagine there might be some technical issues in some cases).

We got a copy of the Monsters Vs. Aliens disc in 3D that will be given out to people who buy a Samsung 3D capable BD and display and it played back fine in 2D on my laptop BD drive without me needing to do anything. The same was true of 3D with 3D capable displays we played with at Samsung. They had an option in the menu that allowed 3D BD content to automatically start playing back in 3D so it should be seamless either way.

It will be nice to finally see Shrek on BD.

That's what I wasn't so sure about. But, it is irrelavent if the 3D disc is compatible with 2D setups.

I guess Shrek might be the first 3D BD title for me then though I don't know if my setup would be upgraded to 3D playback by then -- I have a PS3 that needs fixing and a year-old 3D-capable Sammy DLP RPTV.

Don't think I'll repurchase Monsters vs Aliens for 3D whenever that becomes available.
