Co-Starring Ellen Burstyn, Patricia Clarkson and Amber Tamblyn, The Dramatic Story Of A Small Town’s Fight For Survival Arrives On Blu-ray Disc And DVD November 15 From Magnolia Home Entertainment

From Horton Foote, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of To Kill A Mockingbird and Of Mice And Men, comes a touching drama centered on the residents of a small town; Main Street arrives on Blu-ray Disc and DVD November 15, from Magnolia Home Entertainment. Headlined by an award-winning cast including Oscar® winners Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, A Single Man) and Ellen Burstyn (Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Requiem For A Dream), Academy Award nominee Patricia Clarkson (Pieces Of April, Friends With Benefits, Shutter Island), Golden Globe® nominee Amber Tamblyn (“Joan Of Arcadia,” 127 Hours, The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants), Orlando Bloom (Lord Of The Rings, Pirates Of The Caribbean) and Andrew McCarthy (Pretty In Pink), Main Street follows the close-knit residents of Durham, North Carolina as they meet a newcomer with a controversial plan to save their town from economic decay.

Caught in the nation’s economic downturn and in the midst of financial turmoil, Georgiana Carr (Burstyn), one of the last members of a once-powerful Durham tobacco manufacturing family, is facing the prospect of losing her family home. Out of desperation, she agrees to lease her family’s empty downtown tobacco warehouse to Gus Leroy (Firth) a Texan representing a waste storage conglomerate. However, when she becomes suspicious that toxic waste has been placed in her warehouse, she calls local policeman Harris Parker (Bloom) to investigate. Meanwhile Parker, a local boy also studying for his law degree, is distracted by his longing for high school first love (Tamblyn), a young woman yearning to leave her current job in nearby Raleigh for the prospects of living in a larger city after a failed affair with a married co-worker, Howard Mercer (McCarthy). Once the canisters of hazardous materials are discovered, their existence becomes a concern not only for Georgiana, but the town of Durham as well. Every citizen will have to make a difficult decision as they are promised that the city could become the future site of a larger waste depository that, while enriching the town, would place all of it inhabitants in peril.
The final screenplay by acclaimed writer Horton Foote, Main Street, was filmed entirely on location in Durham, North Carolina. Special features include a making-of with featurette and an HDNet: A Look at Main Street. The Blu-ray Disc and DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $29.98 and $26.98, respectively.
When a stranger arrives with a controversial plan to save their decaying hometown, residents of this close-knit community start making changes. Stories intertwine as an heir to a once thriving tobacco dynasty becomes involved in a dangerous industry with high-risk stakes and a local police office tries to win back his first love. Each of the colorful citizens will search for ways to reinvent themselves, their relationships and the very heart of their neighborhood.
