I still have my CLD-99 in the rack for occasional viewing. Last viewed was the cinematic masterpiece George of the Jungle--not available on DVD in widescreen or BD in any form. Wow the LFE.1 is nuts high on this! I have to reduce the level down to match it with the LCRS. Chapter 4 is like 15db high looking at the SDDS output display levels. Time 16.03 Nostromo landing is roughly -6.5db shy from OVER, when turning fader up +6.5db.

LCRS levels on ALIEN are around -20db peak with little now and then maybe -17/15db. LFE.1 peak must be around -6db or so? Still glad I bought this title. Its a rare one not on DVD bluray.

Wow now my ALIEN makes it to the end of side A. I hear a faint music score just when image fades to black. So maybe the disc was warped and has now settled flat since its been set up vertically like all my LDs are placed.

Last time I played back around (15th June 2014) it started skipping just before Kane, was jettisoned into space. A months or so before (4th April 2014) when it arrived imported fro USA, it wouldn't get past the Kane/ALIEN chest buster dinner scene. Now the disc plays fine.

Mine sits on my AV rack, but I no longer have it hooked up. Most everything I had on laserdisc has been replaced with a Blu-ray copy.

CRIMSON TIDE (1995) THX laserdisc 6-track dts, a whole lot of sound action listening fun 116 mins. Picture quality is not all much different from the bluary , but I prefer (dts Laserdisc) it locks on fast on the Onkyo TX SR-875 instantly without any lags in time to get a stable lock on the PCM dts signal.

Its an old projector Hitachi CPX 430 LCD 1080i 720p and even a kitchen that I'm pleased with. The capture was taken off the CRT Sony 28" with Fujifilm finepix S4400.Some still pictures is with laserdisc on pause or digital freeze expect the one that shows the crush depth that was taken in real time and surprised how sharp the edges was around the numbers, I took picture at first with pause but the edges was bit rough so took a chance at real time with TEXT mode and zoom in from 9.5 feet away at front row.

^^ I see why the LD images are so good then... taken off a CRT. On a 65" Panny, they don't look as sharp but certainly watchable.

I just last week watched Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens out of the Russ Meyer LD box set. Kitten was certainly scrumptious back then.

This isn't a put down or anything and i hope you don't take it that way, this projector came out years before blu ray and we all buy what we can afford at the time but this is now 11 to 12 year old technology and projectors have moved on in leaps and bounds since then, you would be amazed at how good even very cheap projectors now look when fed a really good signal such as blu ray.

I had a black crash tropical laserdisc drink last night was blinding awesome.

Oh and the AVR up scale. I don't mind what you say about laserdisc. As far as I'm concerned bluray disc is on the lower order scale of buying on my list today.

Laserdisc is on the higher order scale. I don't care if bluray came out with 900 Billion Super K res disc format this, Friday.

Buy yourself a Pioneer laserdisc player and enjoy STAR WARS. You can't get '97 STAR WARS Dolby mix on DVD/Bluray that is reserved to THX AC-3 laserdisc. totally different mix.

Spinning '97 STAR WARS episode IV, six-track Dolby Stereo AC-3 / Lucasfilm Ltd THX Sound System.

Most of the time the stereo surrounds on STAR WARS '97 carries ether music or just sound effects.

On the bluray dtshdma 6.1, it carries music and sound effects on the side surrounds, while surround back only carries (sound effects).

One chapter for example disc 1 side 2, 26, STAR WARS '97 AC-3 carries sound effects on the surrounds. Score is carried across LCR music, dialogue centre, but there are some dialogue pans if your listening... to other scenes in the film.

Chapter 33 DVD edition music sound effects are carried on the stereo surrounds with slight differences.

All was going well '97 chapter 28, 44.00 when all of sudden when did the blaster become Dirty Harry "Magnum 44". Still it was entertaining.

Past showings of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK early CBS/FOX letterbox pressing is my favorite.

DAYLIGHT (1996) THX laserdisc 6-track dts / Lucasfim Ltd THX Sound System. Blimey this film thunders on the dynamics with the explosions sounding feeling like an Earthquake sensurround effect.

Analogue is switched on so that I can switch between the PCM dts and Dolby Stereo matrix on the SDDS preset without hearing any sound interruption. Digital is on preset 6 / analogue preset 7.

This was sheer awesome at the original Empire Leicester Square, Empire 1, knocked my socks off in 70mm Dolby Stereo (SS) (THX) JBL sound power light-years ahead, saw it three times in 70mm (THX).

The open was deep operatic score that set the tone nicely. Seeing the opening again at front centre row, the depth was way more involving looking deep into the blackness and the star field moving around, stage bass channels pressing on my chest along with occasional "boom channel low end".

The slam of the Klingon, "Praxis" exploding hit me hard and made me rock back in rocker seat. Depth soon grew bigger and Bigger as a shock-wave moves outwards and the ripples of the low frequency waves felt like they moved underneath the seat and passing sound traveled out along the split-surrounds, that made me turn around while keeping my left eye on-screen, and looking at the vast huge Empire 1, and feeling really excited.

Even felt Foley hand movement of Chief in Command "Break this information down succinctly. (I can feel the hands being placed on the down awesome bass mid) The Klingon Empire has roughly fifty years of life left. ...For full details, I am turning this briefing over to Federation Special Envoy".
