"The runtime for King Kong confirms that it will be the theatrical cut of the film, and not the new extended edition."

They're kidding. I didn't know this bloatfest was edited at all. I was hoping the special edition would be trimmed.

I'm a fan of the movie, but as it stands, KK epitomizes Hollywood self-indulgence.

I agree. While I think Peter Jackson's extended editions of the LOTR trilogy added greatly to the movies, and while I loved the new King Kong, at 188 min (Almost twice as long as the original), the movie needed to be trimmed, not added to. I will be quite happy with the original in HD.

As a side note, I am sure, as with DVD's, a few months after it's release the studio will release the extended version, prompting some of us to repurchase the DVD.

Wasn't "An American Werewolf in London" also listed along with those three when they were initially announced?

With this not being the EE and no TrueHD I'll pass, the SD-DVD is just fine.

American Werewolf is rumoured for the 28th of Nov.
One of the titles I'm looking forward to most- not 'cause I expect it to be good eye candy, just 'cause I love the movie.

Which again should surprise no one since each studio only has a few cash cows they need multiple releases of these films since they are in business to make money. The money they make from these cash cows is often reinvested in releasing lesser known titles that many of us want. This is the way Home Video has been since the early 80's and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Since I gave my godson my DVD of KONG, I'll definitely be buying the HD DVD version. I probably would have purchased it even if I still had the regular disc. :)

This was a really, really saggy movie and no amount of HD glamour is going to make it any better :-( 105 minutes would have been fine for this movie!

I welcome "Kong". But...my SD of "Hulk" looks dazzling when up-converted on a Toshiba HD-A1, and projected via my Sanyo Z4. Some glittering reviews will be required in order to double-dip on that title. It's one of a handful of titles that look nearly HD, in my humble opinion.

In fact, the HD-A1 is the reason I took the plunge, in spite of the format war...something I had sworn against until seeing what that player can do for many SD titles.

I wonder how many of the people who are bitching about Kong own AEon Flux? :D

Once again,
is this the first HD DVD title (KK '05) w/o the longer version on the release?
BD, has been getting short changed literally & figuratively, since day one.
Butt, this is a "first" (ugh!) for HD DVD, correct?

Yeah, same here. As I said in another post, I'm looking forward to it (and Hulk) more than Kong.
