Ken Burns jazz set - lots of hiss (1 Viewer)

I bought my wife the Ken Burns Jazz 5-disk CD set. I was playing the first CD the other night and noticed a lot of hiss. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it because the original recordings that the CD's were made from are old?

I don't have the CD's in front of me, but if i remember correctly the first disk contains songs recorded in the 20's and 30's.

I would believe its very difficult to re-master those recordings to sound clean.

Otherwise a great set of jazz standards, though it misses the touch of ole' blue eyes
