The quality of these tapes were so poor, MCA/Universal did a recall. In the early 80's I found a video store that had a betamax original of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. Because of the recall, the store had a no-return clause on this given tape. I in turn asked to view some of the tape before I purchased. Because I was still under 18 at the time, they had to throw a sheet over the porn tapes in the back room so I could preview it on their only television.
I still have it and ICFOS. Not only is alignment bad throughout, red/cyan anaglyph is what I call a very fragile 3-D format, meaning any deterioration in the color drastically degrades the 3-D experience. And VHS and Beta degraded color considerably more than today's digital video formats. Any movie currently on DVD in red/cyan anaglyph will look miles better than what these anaglyphic 3-D videotapes look like. Not to mention (outside of the 3-D) the overall picture quality is awful.
My two cents: Wait for Universal to release proper elements, as these tapes offer only the very slightest glimpse of the original 3-D quality.
