I'm assuming you're seeing these somewhere like craigslist. The SM series is about.. (and I'm guessing) 8 or 9 years old. So someone has had them for some time. Unless I'm really mistaken, and I don't think so, this is the infinity Minuette MPS series, basically, without the sub. Something like this (below is the non-MPS minuettes, these would be the step up)

$300 is not a very good deal.

Did a easy check with google to find out I'm basically right.. this was the beefed up minuette bookshelf. New, the whole set was $300 less a sub in 2000, when it was introduced. It was sold with a sub for $649. So you're paying the same price as they were new 9 years later. Kind of a bad deal.

yep thats where i found them, i thought that they were pretty good since they were like 102dB and had a max watt of 300w, i didnt know that they used to come with a subwoofer, but im paying 300 for all 6 of those speakers, not just for the two SM-155, is it still a bad deal? im just clueless at this point, my budget is around 500 and i dont know what speaker set to buy because im already getting an Integra DTR-7.8 receiver

Yeah, it's a bad deal. No matter what you're told, go google it. Look it up, the whole set.. five speakers, sold for less then $500 in 2000... nine years ago. They sold with a sub for less then $700. I'm sorry, but you can't get 75% of full value 9 years later.

(look at when the reviews are from)

While I generally hate packages, you can go buy a full package for less the $500 that would be infinitely better (pun intended) and -brand new-

As an example. Just look for it, and pay attention to what you're buying. Buying anything that has to have been used for the last nine years as an audio product at a fair price.. is hard to justify.

how are those definitive technology speakers?

by the way, since you said you're not a fan of buying packages, then what would you recommend, i want a 7.1 set up
which speakers would you recommend for Front L+R+C and what would you recommend for all 4 surround?

My general advice then would be to save your money, and once you're closer to say, $700, grab a good set from somewhere like SVS. Dont' count on doing 7.1 off the bat in a slim budget. Get a good 5. A good "5" is better then a mediocre to poor 7.1 setup. later, you can add to it as your money and budget allows.
Sometimes, you're better to not let money burn a hole in your pocket. Hold onto it and get something worth while rather then investing in something you'll regret.

so get a 5 from SVS and i already have two Jamo E680 speakers which i can set up for my fronts...so from the 5, i can use 4 for surround, and 1 for center along with my two Jamo E680's but then i'd have to get a sub too :-/

No not a good idea. Fronts and center need to be timbre matched. Long story short they should all three be from the same company and same line of that company. Better option would be go with something from the Jamo line that is matched to the E680's. Not familar with the brand so I wouldn't know which center to use. A little research or a phone call would figure this out I imagine. This would give you 3.0 and a entry level sub from Partsexpress would get you 3.1. With a limited budget it's the way I would go. I hate to say this but until you get a bigger budget you could use some cheap but quality speakers off CL or Ebay for the L and R surround but I think the SBS series from SVS are only 150 or so a pair which seems to be a steal. As mentioned above spend money wisely on you speakers as they should be with you for years and years if spend correctly.
