Considering the receiver is starting to show its age, 5 vs 7 amplified channels, DPLII vs DPLIIx, the need for a separate 2 channel amplifier to achieve its 7.1 capability. I have an opportunity to purchase a new 1055 from an authorized ROTEL dealer for $1050 would this be a wise move. Your reply sincerely appreciated. Thanks.

That depends on if you intend to run a 6.1 or 7.1 system? The 1055 still is an excellent sounding receiver that excells at HT and music. The on board XS processing sounds really good so even though it doesn't have PLIIx its better then most receivers at utilizing the rear surrounds if you have them. As for the extra amps I'd look at adding a nice 2 channel amp at some point and using that on your mains then redirect the 1055's front channels to the rear surrounds when you're ready to do 7.1 etc. That'll give you the best sounding music from that unit. Sonically the 1055 and the 1066 sound virtually identical and in my rack when both used as pre amps I couldn't tell the difference which speaks volumes about the quality of the 1055's pre amp section.

well, considering that you can probalby get a 1056 for $100 more, I would say no, dont get the 1055....

I think a fairer price for the 1055 is more like $900-950...

normal discount on rotel is 10-15% off, 10% puts it at 1170 and 15% at 1105...i think, to me, its worth the extra 55-120 more...not that i want the dpl2x so much, but if in a year or two i want to sell it, the 1055 is an old model and the 1056 is the new model...also, any software updates, the 1055 probably wont get them, but the 1056 will...

just my thoughts.
