How does the transfer hold up, nowadays compared to the best we get?

This is a title I would spring for again, for a more loaded version with a better transfer (if possible).

Philip, I would rate the transfer as solid (not spectacular). Being almost 5 years old I think (the DVD) it was state-of-the-art at the time and it's pretty good now (kind of like the Contact DVD).

blind purchase - definitely at that price.

i love the movie. and the opening narration never bothered me.

transfer shows slight compression artifacting occasionally but overall is very good.

It's a good thing my Best Buy didn't have it for $9.99, because Fry's has it on sale for $5.99.

The DVD itself is a DVD-5, which seems to be the case for all the $5.99 titles.

Our Fry's has it for $4.99!

It's kinda depressing that most of the discs I bought in 1997/1998 are now being thrown out at rock-bottom prices.

Space Noir? Fantasy? .... Whatever, it's a great flick.
One of my fav B+ movies.

and the ending, with all of its revelations, is just downright silly
While I wasn't real crazy about the ending, I didn't think it was silly. IMO, it was all about the ride getting there. The easiest recommendation at $5.99 at BB (purchased December '05).
