For the home user the main benefit of going from 2000 to XP should be compatibility to more games. I don't understand XP fully, but I think it has some sort of Win 9x emulator, since XP is built on the NT kernel. So what this does is give you the stability of 2000/NT and an emulator to let you play just about any game that ran on Win 9x/ME.
