Taking place initially in Acupulco, Mexico, "Instructions Not Included" is a Spanish language film featuring a happy-go-lucky guy, Valentin, who beds any woman/women he encounters, finds himself one day saddled with the results of such an encounter, a 9-month old daughter, abandoned in his arms by the mother.
Looking for the birth mother brings him into the US by some shady means, and he find an unlikely occupation that allows for him to take care of his daughter, Maggie. And then the birth mother returns when Maggie is about 7 years old.
The film plays out like a Spanish telenovela at times with its musical cues and melodramatic twists and turns, but the performances are ernest and entertaining enough to sit through it.
I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.
