in Adobe Illustrator, how do i create an outline of a fancy stroke? say my object has a stroke that's a dashed line, or even loops. how do i make that stroke into an object?

(specifically, Illustrator 9.0.2 Mac)

Click your stroke (path), go to OBJECT->PATH->OUTLINE PATH. This should do it.
