If you were designing a home theater environment, what are the advantages and disadvantage (1 Viewer)

Hello Post,
I am a collage studant taking a class in videos and need some incites on a great subject. If you were designing a home theater environment, what are the advantages and disadvantages of Surround Sound vs. the more traditional stereo and mono techniques?

Surround sound is much more enveloping, involving and engaging than mono or stereo. Surround possess the ability to create an acoustic bubble, an environment that can place the viewer in the scene with all the environmental elements that comprise the specific stage being set. Disadvantages: more speakers, more amplification, greater cost, increased chance of improper setup.
