I am currently running a H/K 635 with Aperion Audio speakers and a Panasonic RP62 DVD player. I use the dvd player as my cd player as well, and i feel like i'm missing out on something here. What can I do to improve my music CD quality? Is the DVD player via Toslink going to be able to offer me everything I need in a CD player?

Only you can make that judgement. Find a dealer that will let you home demo a cdp or a dealer with a good return policy. Use the analog outs on the cdp if you do try one out.

James, the analog outs will allow the DAC in the CDP to perform the conversion rather than allowing your receivers' internal DAC's to do so via the digital cable.

I started off a road that became a dedicated 2-channel system from where you are going now. I picked up an AMC cd-8b and it greatly outperformed my Denon DVD player of 3x the price! I was hooked! ;) Other players to consider are the Jolida JD100 or Music Hall CD-25. There are many others out there, but these are two that I have heard and know.

i would look elsewhere than your source...

a better amp, possibly a sub for the speakers, etc... might be a better upgrade than the source. i have typically seen that the cd player or transport has one of the smallest impacts on a system.
