Your newest newbi is back for one last quest... I need a Blu-ray player for the 5.1 HT system I am building. The problem is, I know nothing about them or what I should be looking for. I am simply looking to play movies and hopefully play cd's on it (if that is even possible). Like to keep it under $100.

My setup is
Sony Bravia 46" lcd television (KDL-46V2500)
Denon e300 receiver
BIC DV-62CLRS Center Channel
BIC DV-62si Speakers (Front & Rear)
Dayton 1200 subwoofer

I currently have a Panasonic DVD recorder, which is on its last legs, so getting a Blu-ray for my new setup seems to make sense. Will any of the blu-rays on amazon work with my system as long as it has a HDMI cable? Will they all play my music cd's? Not sure if I really need all the bells and whistles like wireless, streaming capability, 3D, etc... I just want to watch movies and listen to music through my new system.

Ideas? Suggestions?

I would buy a Sony for the direct remote ability. For BD playback itself...in theory there is zero difference between players. The difference is in the apps, WiFi or lan and whether you need/want anything more than an HDMI output.

Yes. But if cd playback is a requirement, make sure it has another audio output. Playing audio only over HDMI is wonky.

Denon has a few older models still new kicking around. I just picked one up my self. Most of them will spin any disc that you throw at them.
