I too found the story to be convoluted, at the expense of the main characters.
For me, the main head scratcher was why the vampire brother wanted to free his furry brother. He certainly didn't seem like the kind of guy who would share power with anyone, so, what were we to think? That this was the sentimental streak of an otherwise bad guy?
Far from being all style over substance, the problem with this sequel was that the substance - the brother's quest for his brother - was not interesting.
But I'd love a third film, anyway. Too bad they didn't film a pair of sequels simultaneously.
